If Your Clients Heard You Talking About Them, What Would They Think?
I ask this question to groups all over the country, and the faces I get staring back at me are quite interesting.
Seriously.?I want you to think about the things you say about your clients after you make a sale.
I also want you to think about the things you say about your prospects, who don’t buy from you the first time you see them.
Let’s start with your clients.?
They decided to purchase your product, service, or solution, and they’re excited about what it can do for themselves or their business.
You, all hopped up on adrenaline, ego, piss and vinegar, and whatever other feelings you get when you “close” someone, head back to the office or back home to start the bragging process.
“I closed them for $10K!”?“You should have seen this guy, I had him eating out of the palm of my hand.”?“I can’t believe he went for the upsell, I got an extra $1,000 out of him and he had no chance.”
If you were recorded, and we showed your client exactly what you said about them, while you were standing right next to them, how would you feel?
Aghast??Embarrassed??Foolish??Mortified??Empty?
You’re damn right you should.?And if you wouldn’t feel anything??You’re proving my point.
What if you were recorded saying things about a prospect who didn’t buy?
“What a moron, I hope her business fails.”?“If they call back later, I’m telling them no way, they missed their chance.”?“Tire-kicker.”?“This idiot just wasted an hour of my time and they’re never gonna buy anyway.”
Geez, I wonder what the chances of them calling you back later would be, once they heard the way you talked about them?
Next time you want to act like a selfish, ego-maniacal, “closer”, whose only concern is the commission check you’ll be getting, I want you to think about how they’d feel if they saw you talking about them the way you usually talk about your prospects and clients.
Think about it.
