Your Choice
Simone-Ellen Keller
Getting people where they want to go, using the things that make them brilliant.
I woke up the other morning with my thoughts in serious work mode. GeniusYou was up and running and working overtime. I had hardly opened my eyes. Go away GeniusYou, it’s Sunday.
My thoughts went elsewhere. Is it time for coffee? Which outfit should I wear to lunch? Every now and then GY tried to intrude but I gently pushed it away.
Strange as it may seem, this process made me happy. Why? Because it reminded me that I can choose my thoughts. It reinforced for me that my thoughts don’t need to be on autopilot. They don’t rule me, they are mine to choose.
People often say to me, I don’t know who I am. My answer is that you are how you behave. It’s simple, and incredibly easy to control when we think about it like that. How we behave is directed by how we think and if we can re-direct these thoughts, then we influence our behaviour and in turn we get to choose who we are. Yummy.
Today I choose to have a wonderful day with my husband and some friends. The highlight was being told by a 12-year-old cool kid that I looked like Scarlett J from Black Widow. Now that’s a thought I want to spend some more time on. I wonder what behaviour it will prompt?
Choosing our thoughts is a process that we must learn and practice. It’s not a skill we are born with. It’s the learning process that empowers our development by giving us control over our thoughts.
Now think about that!
