Is Your Child's School Prepared?
This year has been a unique experience for me with the beginning of empty nest syndrome. Both my kids are away at school which should mean I can start to worry less. In recent times it seems like I am worrying more about keeping them safe in environments I can no longer control. It was just a short time ago that the October or December break had our family taking treks around various colleges and universities. to see which were going to be a good fit for us. As parents you want to ensure that they get the opportunity to get a a great education in their field(s) of interest. As you and your families are evaluating the campus' facilities, social and educational opportunities, sports programs, and the educational programs of a college or university make sure that their ability to keep your most precious investment safe is one of your considerations.
What is the security profile of the campus? Which technologies, access control programs, and emergency response training is offered for staff and students? Are the training and response plans real and robust or simply a written policy that has never been practiced? Safety and Security needs to be every parent, student, and staff member's concern when selecting a school.
When a student drove his car into a crowd on Ohio State University’s campus, OSU sent out an emergency alert advising the community to “run hide fight.†I discussed the philosophy behind this recommendation with Fox News https://www.fox25boston.com/news/frmr-bpd-superintendent-dan-linskey-on-campus-safety-after-ohio-state-attack-1/471149453
