Is Your Children's Jewelry Listing Compliant on Amazon? What You Need to Know

As an Amazon seller, ensuring your products meet all necessary safety standards is crucial, especially when it comes to children's items. Recently, many sellers have found their jewelry listings flagged as children's products due to keywords used in titles and descriptions. If your jewelry is not intended for children, removing these keywords and appealing the decision is the first step. However, if you do sell children's jewelry, understanding Amazon's compliance requirements is essential to avoid account suspensions and maintain customer trust.

Amazon is at the forefront of ecommerce technology and prioritizes customer safety above all else. While this commitment to compliance is admirable, navigating the various regulations and documentation needed, such as children's jewelry regulations on Amazon and CPSIA compliance for Amazon sellers, can be challenging. When it comes to children's jewelry, here are the key things you need to ensure Amazon compliance for children's products:

  1. Lab Test Report: You must obtain a test report from an Amazon-recognized accredited laboratory. Accredited lab testing for Amazon children's jewelry is crucial. Look for a lab experienced in working with Amazon, as they may have specific requirements for the report. Keep in mind that Amazon may contact the lab directly to verify the authenticity of your documents.
  2. Children's Product Certificate (CPC): The brand or manufacturer creates this document based on the lab test report. You can find CPC requirements for Amazon online, such as on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website.
  3. Tracking Label: Your products must include a tracking label with the importer or manufacturer's business name and address for potential recall purposes. The label should also have the appropriate choking hazard warning and minimum age recommendation (e.g., 3+). For jewelry this can be a note or insert inside the jewelry box or packaging.

If your children's jewelry listings are flagged for non-compliance, you can appeal or submit the necessary documents through your Account Health page to maintain Amazon account health compliance. Go to Performance > Account Health, then look for "Manage your compliance" on the bottom right. You can either add/appeal compliance one listing at a time or do a bulk upload using the Upload file for compliance tab. Be aware that these two systems may not always communicate with each other on Amazon's end.

Dealing with compliance issues can be frustrating, especially when regular Amazon support has limited access to these cases. The child safety team operates separately, and only leadership can communicate with them internally on your behalf. Persistence and thorough documentation are key to resolving any compliance hurdles and avoiding child safety violations on Amazon.

For more information on children's product safety requirements, visit the CPSIA website (https://www.cpsc.gov/Regulations-Laws--Standards/Statutes/The-Consumer-Product-Safety-Improvement-Act ) and the CPSC page on Children's Product Certificates (https://www.cpsc.gov/Testing-Certification/Childrens-Product-Certificate-CPC ).

By understanding Amazon's child safety compliance standards and having the proper documentation ready, children's jewelry sellers can avoid costly account disruptions and build trust with both Amazon and their customers.

The problem with #amazon is that they are unable to correct their own mistakes. I had a number of products mistakenly flagged as children's jewelry. Upon appeal, they were approved by the relevant team as not falling under that category and not requiring testing. A month later, Amazon delisted my top products without warning and the two teams appear incapable of communicating with each other despite sharing screenshots of emails and showing my compliance dashboard saying "approved." At some point, it should be clear they have monopoly power that is being abused. #amazoncompliance #amazonsellers

Hey Zev, I want to know more about it. In future I’m planning to launch a jewelry brand on Amazon on partnership. What are your thoughts? What kind of safety standards you believe we should aknowledge before investing in Private Label ?
