"Your children need your presence more than your presents." -Jesse Jackson
We all lead busy lives these days and it's increasingly hard to be present with our children even when we are in their presence. While some of us can't control the quantity of time we have with our children, we can all control the quality of time we spend with our family, so be present when you are together.
Remember, we are the #1 influence on our children's behaviours--financial and otherwise--so it's up to us to raise a generation of mindful money managers and accountable adults.
Cents for Kids is focused on building financial literacy in children and supporting parents with the tools and resources they need to teach their children about money.
CONVERSATION STARTERS
Use special occasions, like Christmas (or whatever you celebrate!), to point out that not everyone is as fortunate as your family and discuss ways you can help.
Point out volunteers collecting donations and explain how they are giving their time to raise money for that charity.
ACTIVITIES
Your child might receive money as a gift. Help your child decide how to use this money, suggesting that they might donate a portion or set some aside for sharing with friends and family.
Help your child write THANK YOU notes for the gifts they receive, inspiring an 'attitude of gratitude.'
