Your Cheat Sheet to Crushing Networking Events Online

Your Cheat Sheet to Crushing Networking Events Online

Hey there, fellow networker! Ready to ditch the awkward small talk and stale coffee at networking events online? ?Welcome to the era of online networking events. Where you can connect with amazing people from your couch (in your PJs, if you want). ??

In this guide, I'll share everything I've learned from hosting and attending countless virtual events as a high achiever, highly sensitive, and sometimes introverted individual – including my recent online gathering for female entrepreneurs, which was an absolute blast! We'll cover everything from picking the perfect platform to crafting an irresistible invitation, and even how to follow up like a pro.

My Personal Take on Networking?

Speaking of my recent event, the energy was electric! So many women messaged me afterwards about how great they felt at the online networking event and how eager they were for the next one. ?It really hit home for me how powerful authentic connection is, especially for us heart-centred entrepreneurs. ?

One question that popped up a lot was how to spot that genuine spark when online networking. ?For me, it's all about the unspoken cues – someone's energy, the way they speak, their passion for their work. It's hard to fake that kind of enthusiasm. And whether you're hosting or attending, how you show up – from your outfit to your overall vibe – makes a huge difference. Networking isn't just about business.

As LUCIA Harper ?? highlighted at our event:

"Most people rush to build relationships and want to close a sale too quickly, rather than spending time learning more about the other person."

Are there opportunities for real interaction, like breakout sessions or Q&A with the speakers? A little research goes a long way in ensuring you're investing your time wisely.?

4. Making a Splash: How to Stand Out in a Sea of Screens

In a virtual setting, At online networking events, it's easy to fade into the background. But don't be a wallflower! Be an active participant in online business networking events. Chime in on the chat during the best online networking events, ask thoughtful questions during Q&A sessions and share your own insights when appropriate. And don't forget to turn on your camera – it helps you connect on a more personal level during online business networking.

5. Breaking the Ice: Easy Ways to Start (and Keep) Conversations Going

Starting conversations online can feel a bit awkward, but it doesn't have to be. A simple "Hi, I'm {Your Name}, and I'm interested in learning more about [Topic]." can go a long way. Ask open-ended questions at a speed networking session, whether it's in-person or virtual. Share your own experiences, and find common ground. Everyone's there to connect, so don't be afraid to put yourself out there.

6. Making the Most of Breakout Sessions and Small Group Activities

Breakout sessions are your chance to shine! They offer a more intimate setting for deeper conversations and connections. Be an active participant, share your thoughts, and ask questions. This is where you can truly build relationships and leave a lasting impression.

7. Virtual Networking Etiquette: The Unwritten Rules of Online Mingling

Virtual networking has its own set of etiquette rules. Be respectful of others' time, don't dominate the conversation, and be mindful of your background and appearance (even if you are wearing pajamas on the bottom!).

8. Nurturing Your New Connections: The Art of the Follow-Up

The event is just the beginning. The real magic happens after the event. Follow up with the people you connect with by sending personalized messages that reference your conversation. What resonated the most? Connect with them on LinkedIn or other professional platforms after an online networking event.

Personalize Your Follow-Up with Business Professionals

Go beyond the generic "Nice to meet you" message. Mention specific details from your conversation, offer a helpful resource, or suggest a follow-up meeting.

If you really hit it off, consider scheduling a virtual coffee chat to keep the conversation going. Building relationships takes time and effort, so don't let those online networking connections fade away. Your network is a powerful asset. Once you've built those connections, don't be afraid to ask for help, advice, or introductions. Offer your own expertise and support to others. Networking is a two-way street, so be generous with your time and resources.?

Offer Value Before You Ask for Anything

Share your expertise, insights, or resources freely. This establishes you as a valuable member of the community and makes people more receptive to your requests.

Questions to Ask About Potential Collaborations & Next Steps

When you ask about their goals and challenges in a way that resonates with them, it shows that you're genuinely interested in what they have to say. This kind of authentic interaction not only builds trust but also opens up opportunities for deeper, more meaningful discussions that can lead to valuable insights and lasting connections.

You’ve nailed the whole virtual networking thing Ramona K.. You talked about how networking isn’t just about business, and I couldn’t agree more. I've seen that the best connections come from being real and respecting each other, not just swapping business cards. I would add that patience is key. Good things take time, right? We can’t rush relationships. We have to take it slow, getting to know each other, and then, boom! Opportunities pop up from places you never expected.
