Your ChatGPT-Written Posts Sound Like Everyone Else; 8 Tips To Help You Sound Better When Using AI

If you're like me, you've probably noticed that many posts on LinkedIn these days have a very similar tone... almost like they were written by AI (god forbid). As we all know by now, tools like OpenAI 's ChatGPT, 谷歌 Bard and 微软 's Bing AI tend to have a similar tone and style, especially when writing for LinkedIn. This seems to be making it difficult for a lot of people to stand out and sound authentic.

There are ways to avoid the embarrassment of sounding like an AI though, here are 8 tips to help you draft better posts using AI:

  1. LinkedIn's Tone: For ChatGPT, LinkedIn has a tone. If you tell ChatGPT you're writing something for LinkedIn, you're gonna sound like a lot of other people right now. Always use GPT4 vs. 3.5, even if you have to pay for it.
  2. Language & Tone Cont'd: Specify the tone you want — casual, academic, humorous, etc. For example, "Provide tips on social media management in a casual tone." You don't always need to tell ChatGPT it's for LinkedIn.
  3. Personality-based Prompts: Ask for help with writing content in the tone of different people, e.g., "Explain the importance of SEO in the style of Steve Jobs." You can also feed ChatGPT your own writing to teach it your tone.
  4. Audience-Specific: Mention the target audience for whom the content is intended, e.g., "Explain the fundamentals of PPC to someone who has never heard of it." Pro-tip: add additional context here using custom instructions.
  5. Format Style: Specify the format you want the advice or content to take, such as a listicle, a Q&A, or a step-by-step guide. Take the initial draft and edit it to make it sound more authentic to your intended audience.
  6. Challenge Constraints: Ask for a solution to a problem but with constraints. For example, "Please give me a content marketing strategy for someone who only has a budget of $500."
  7. Hypothetical Scenarios: Present a hypothetical situation and ask for advice or a strategy, e.g., "How would you adjust a marketing plan if Facebook were to shut down tomorrow?"
  8. Ethical/Philosophical: Ask for advice or content that considers ethical or philosophical perspectives, e.g., "What are the ethical considerations in data-driven marketing?"

Pro-tip: You can train ChatGPT by giving it additional context with its AI PDF Reader plugin and upload entire white papers/PDFs to start a thread. See my example below in the comment thread.

Hopefully, y'all can use some of these prompts to make your writing less ChatGPT-ish. Trust me when I say an extra 30 seconds of precision and contextual prompting can make a world of difference here.

Now, you tell me, did I use AI to write any part of this article? Seriously though, let me know in the comments, connect with me and follow for more... all that good stuff.

Oh my goodness... I actually forgot a key point! You can train ChatGPT by giving it additional context with its AI PDF Reader plugin and upload entire white papers/PDFs in the same thread. Example: 1. Prompt: "Hi ChatGPT, can you please read through and understand the info in this PDF to understand my next question?" >> select AI PDF Reader, upload document, Enter 2. Prompt: "Thank you! Using the style, knowledge and tone of that PDF, can you write me... etc" Now you're cooking with fire! ??????

Just a bit of nudging goes a long way! I've been a fan on personality prompts. What better way to get results than to have it mimic an expert in their field
