Is your chat confidential using chatGPT or alike? A comparison.

When using a genAI app, like openAI chatGPT, there are some concerns around the privacy and confidentiality of the information provided.

Especially if you are working with a company with sensitive data, or simply you are a user disclosing information about your health, you may not be that keen to disclose your issues with others.

For that reason, not only should you compare the quality of the service but also the confidentiality of the service. Here below a quick comparison:

-@OpenAI chatGPT:?

‘OpenAI will retain language data for up to 30 days for purposes such as enforcing policy violations. API model use is not used for training. ‘

-@Google Gemini -personal use (even if paid)

‘Even when Gemini Apps Activity is off, your conversations will be saved with your account for up to 72 hours. This lets Google provide the service and process any feedback. This activity won’t appear in your Gemini Apps Activity.’

-@Google Gemini workspace

‘Users with a Gemini for Google Workspace license get enterprise-grade data protections when they use Gemini (gemini.google.com). Submissions aren't used to train models and are never reviewed by humans.’

-@Microsoft Copilot

‘When you’re signed into Copilot with your Microsoft Entra ID, you get commercial data protection for free—which means chat data isn’t saved, Microsoft has no eyes-on access, and your data isn’t used to train the models.’

-@Anthropic Claude

‘By default (and just like our beta version of Claude.ai), we will not use your prompts and conversations from Claude Pro to train our models. There are two instances in which we may use your prompts and conversations to train our models: (1) if you give us explicit permission by submitting feedback through the thumbs up/down feature or by reaching out to us with a request, and (2) where your prompts and conversations are flagged for trust and safety review, we may use or analyze those conversations to improve our ability to detect and enforce Acceptable Use Policy violations, including to train Trust and Safety classifiers in order to make our services safer. Only a limited number of staff members have access to conversation data and they will only access this data for explicit business purposes.’

Conclusion:

If you are a free or paid user and you have a concern about the data you may enter in the service, your best options (to date) are Claude or Copilot.

I hope it helps.
