Is your charity’s record up-to-date?
Charities Regulator
Ireland's national statutory regulator for charitable organisations
With millions of euro given annually to charities in Ireland along with thousands of hours, and goods of many types, public trust and confidence is critical to the viability of the charity sector. Our latest advertising campaign, launched in May, is one of a number of initiatives planned to support donors to give confidently by increasing awareness of the public Register of Charities as the source of information on all Irish charities, including details of their finances and activities.
?
The campaign encourages donors to check the Register to ensure they are giving to a registered charity. And to help make it easy for them to remember and find the Register, we have created a unique web address,?checkacharity.ie .
?
Our research on Irish attitudes to the charity sector shows?the vital role that trust, and transparency play in the charitable sector. The?latest research , published in May, found that providing clear details on how donations are used, along with evidence of what charities have achieved would create improved levels of trust and confidence amongst 90% of the population.?We also found that over 30% of all donors currently check the Register before donating, a figure that is likely to increase.
?
It’s important that your charity’s information on the Register is up-to-date.?If you haven’t checked your charity’s details on the Register recently, we encourage you to do so now. In particular make sure you check all of your charity trustees’ details, your charity’s classification?as well as ensuring that the most recent annual report has been filed for your charity.
