Your Call Is Important to Us

I don’t know anyone who likes being put on hold. It’s a time when your mind starts to wander (Did Henry VIII really compose the music “Greensleeves”?). You wonder if the person you’ve just spoken to really IS putting you through to the right person, or the person you are talking to is frantically finding a way to avoid you.

Being “on hold” is an opportunity with responsibility. Obviously you CAN market your company, tell the person about things you offer, services you perform that they may not know about. You can also let them know that their call is valued and important. With sincerity! (“Always, be sincere… whether you mean it, or not” Michael Flanders).

Really, mean it.

Do you get tired of your partner telling you how much they love you? Is it a cliché? (On the other hand , if they suddenly start telling you a dozen more times a day do you start to get suspicious?)

There’s been a lot of comedy fodder from the expression “your call is important to us“ but if it’s true, say it and live it throughout your company. They can tell if you don’t mean it! Make sure everyone in your company values every call.

In these times of… well, you know what…. it’s time to reassure your customers. If you’re still doing business, how are you doing business? How can I buy from you or use your services. If you’re not operating in some way is there an alternative that can help. Put it in to your answer service, your “out of hours” message or your on hold… and put your arms around your customer. Not literally, of course.

  • Use a professional voice over.
  • Use a professional writer and producer.
  • Avoid “boasting” and tell your customer what your product or service means to them.
  • Let your customer know you really do care about them… and PROVE it.
  • Tell your customers how you are protecting them and your own staff during these tough times.
