For loan officers, business growth might not always follow a perfectly straight line.
There may be ups and downs, and our business may change as the market changes. While some fluctuations are normal, what happens when it seems like that growth just isn’t happening? If it feels like things in your business have hit a wall or you simply can’t get to that next level, it can be frustrating. But many professionals find themselves on a plateau at some point in their careers. The key is having awareness, evaluating, and responding promptly, so you can continue growing and expanding.
If it seems like your business has been in the same place for months or even years, the first place to start might be with your goals. How clear are they? Do you know what you’re shooting for? Sometimes we get stuck on a plateau as the result of vague goals. Because we don’t provide ourselves the clear next steps we need to take. So, ensure you’re breaking your goals down. This way you’re able to hold yourself accountable to the daily actions you need to take to build your business. It allows you to track your progress.
Another important thing professionals can do in response to feeling like they're on a plateau is to reinvest. I’m not talking so much about financial investments here, though. Reinvest your energy. Reinvest your passion. It can be frustrating to experience a plateau, and sometimes that leads to professionals subconsciously checking out a bit. If you notice business growth isn’t happening the way you’d like, plug back into your business. Surround yourself with motivation. That might mean networking with other ambitious professionals, taking a class, or listening to a podcast.
Finally, get curious!
Take some time to look back at what might need to change, and then look forward to the things you want to try in your business. Successful businesses usually require experimentation and trial and error. Getting off a plateau isn’t necessarily a straight line either. What you want is to get some motion in progress. You might not immediately get to exactly where you want to be, but by starting to try out some new things, you’ll get back into that sense of evolution.
