Everyone's talking about storytelling, and it's a fact that stories speak to your heart, whilst facts speak to your mind.
But what is storytelling in the context of business?
Why stories?
Stories help us make sense of the world and our place within it. In a marketing context, we use stories to make our brands, products and services resonate with the lives of customers.
People buy from people, so in short, it's your story that's going to attract the attention of your ideal client which, over time, will develop and nurture a relationship between you.
Your ideal client is not going to part with hard earned cash until he knows you, likes you, and ultimately trusts you.
So how do you reach the point where your audience know, like and trust you?
Show up day after day
Storytelling in business is very powerful. Our stories focus on the human side of our work - it means telling stories instead of listing facts. Listing facts won't stick in your audience's mind like a story will.
Showing up day after day, week after week on social media is the key to nurturing know, like and trust.
And you do this through storytelling. Don't write an essay, no one will read it because we've only got the concentration span of 9 seconds - but if you craft bite-size chunks of story about you, how your business started, your values, dreams, how you serve your clients etc, and accompany them with stunning images, then you've got their attention straight away.
It's your story plus those on-brand images that will stop that incessant scrolling.

4 年Thanks for sharing this, Anne. Each point I found myself nodding and saying "yup"! Storytelling is such an important and basic tool in communication. We all tell stories naturally, even if it is just telling someone about your day. And of course, if you can tell those stories visually - you're onto a winner.

4 年Great article Anne, story telling for my business is something I need to be more consistent with and to do better. I have noticed the story content gets much more interaction then anything else.
