Your Business Isn’t Growing It's Declining—Here's the Simple Steps to Break Free

Every day, as business owners and leaders, we’re faced with a choice: to trust in our vision or to surrender to fear.

And while 98% of people let fear dictate their actions, a powerful 2% choose to trust in something greater—their purpose, their potential, and their own unborrowed vision.

Think of a seed.

Before it can rise and grow into something remarkable, it has to go down first—buried, out of sight, and rooted deep in the soil. That descent isn’t weakness. It’s preparation.

It’s a vital step in its journey upward, very similar to the challenges you face when you decide to step out of the comfort zone of "sameness" and into true growth.

The challenge is this: when faced with the unknown, most people drift.

They let fear keep them in place, comfortable but stagnant. And so, they live life as drifters—accepting whatever comes, taking no steps toward what could be, and spending all their time getting just that.

Drifters are stuck, caught in the circle of sameness, while those willing to trust in their vision move forward.

But as business leaders, if we want true growth, we have to break free from the grip of fear.

We have to choose trust, even when there’s no certainty, and continue to reach for the vision only we can see.

Growth Starts With Vision, Trust, and Commitment

Throughout history, the thinkers, artists, inventors, and business visionaries who broke through did so by rejecting fear.

They stood alone, armed only with trust and their unique, unborrowed vision. They faced challenges, opposition, and sacrifice, but they pressed on.

And because they did, they didn’t just survive—they thrived.

Trust, like the roots of that seed, holds you steady in the soil of purpose so you can grow upward. Trust is the path forward.

The problem for most leaders is that, unlike a seed, we have a choice. We can choose to stay where we are, rooted in the safety of our comfort zones.

Or we can take the road less traveled, the road that asks us to lean into the discomfort, take risks, and trust in the vision we hold. Most choose the safe harbor. Only a few set out toward their true potential.

What Does Choosing Trust Look Like in Business?

Choosing trust means investing in growth even when the return isn’t immediate.

It means going beyond your comfort zone in the pursuit of something greater.

It’s about going out and finding new clients instead of waiting for them to come to you, making those calls, forming partnerships, investing in systems, and constantly pushing your vision forward.

It also means being willing to look within and identify what you don’t yet know. In the words of introspection: “What am I doing wrong? Where am I holding back?”

Here’s how you can start stepping out of fear and into trust:

  1. Reflect and Introspect: Take an honest look at where you’re holding back. What are the areas you avoid because of fear? Identify them, and take the first steps to address them, even if it means starting small.
  2. Embrace the Unknown: Make a list of what you don’t yet know or feel uncomfortable with. Each item on that list represents a step toward growth. Lean into learning or delegating in those areas, creating space for progress.
  3. Take Decisive Action: Just like those who carved new roads in history, action is the antidote to fear. If you feel resistance toward something that could bring growth—outreach, investment, a bold hire—take a step forward.
  4. Revisit and Reinforce Your Vision: What is the “why” behind what you do? Revisit it often. A clear, unborrowed vision keeps you grounded and focused, even when you’re moving through uncertainty.

The Reward Awaits

The men and women who pushed forward with unborrowed vision weren’t guaranteed success.

They fought, suffered, and paid the price, but they won.

Not because they waited for ideal conditions, but because they trusted their vision and kept moving forward.

As a business owner, your greatest strength isn’t the resources you have today—it’s the belief in where you’re going and the actions you’re willing to take to get there.

Growth doesn’t happen in the safety of the harbor. It’s found out in the open waters where new opportunities, challenges, and possibilities are waiting.

So ask yourself: Are you ready to trust your vision and take the steps that others won’t?

This week, make one choice—trust over fear.

Choose to take that step, go after that client, reach for that goal. You didn’t come this far to stay safe. Your business was built to grow, thrive, and lead.

It’s time to leave the harbor.
