Meeting old Connections is vital!

It is a measure of how much you have nurture and grown and tapped into someone else's life and growth. Like gardening in ways.

I met up with my first business intern for dinner after years not seeing each other.

Looking back together … reminiscing.

It was 2014.

She had just entered into her 20s.

She was living in London having moved from abroad to be here.

I was a big blogger on ethical fashion and African fashion, 20,000 website hits a month which was great then.

She was equally obsessed and dedicated with fashion and Africa.

The foundation of my main business is coaching start ups to build fashion businesses made in or inspired by Africa.

We recalled how I literally threw her in the deep end with my 2014 Fashion Africa Conference in london where 250 people attended, with multiple rooms and top name speakers from Actress Rosario Dawson through to H&M on the panel to the Guardian newspaper, Swarovski and Puma in the audience.

I had her manage the helpers and support the speakers.

Yes … these top name, big industry and influential speakers

She admitted to m how nervous she was.

She also shared how much she appreciated and how grateful she was that I trusted in her.

And I did that without a doubt because I saw something key in her.

A “can do” … even if don’t know how … attitude.

She’s gone on to management positions travelling the world leading on projects for businesses and I am super proud.

But what I didn’t like about meeting with her is the feeling I had when she was open with me.

She told me the truth and I realised she was right.

She explained, in love, that I was scared of something, that I have done so much in the industry and how I could be and do even bigger than I am today in my business, but that I was holding back from fear of something.

I didn’t like the reality of this but I loved the fact that this truth reminded me of the greatness placed in me AND it gave me the kick I needed to push forward with my plans.

The sad thing is that I know I’m not alone in experiencing this feeling.

This need to hold back because of fear

Fear of what if...

Fear of the unknown...

Fear from imposter syndrome...

Fear of not having all the answers...

Fear from perfectionism.

Now there’s two type of people in this position and a small difference between them. Which one are you?

Person A recognises this and uses this as leverage to get up, make a change and be the change they wanna see in their life (thanks Gandhi)

Person B continues to stew over this and finds every excuse to maintain their stoic rigid position and lets that fear keep them stuck where they are.

I refuse to be the latter and I do what I do working with people like you because I know my impact, my influence, my insights and that with my infectious “I can do anything” attitude I can contribute change in your position, your life and your bank account … if you just let me push.

I built my own little empire with the capacity to be a great empire and within the most random area of African fashion.
