Is your business falling behind?

Is your business falling behind?

It is a sad truth - however, in small businesses innovation and efficiency with technology remains an opportunity often missed. But why?

We have always done things that way!

I hear this a lot, tried and tested processes that go back decades or since the foundation of the business seldom are changed. It is a sad fact that we do not stop to review what we do in our businesses to find new efficiencies, together with ways technology may be able to assist.

There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.” Peter Drucker

How technology can help

Truth is you can use technology inefficiently too, I personally have seen this with organizations using email as their CRM. Yes, email can be a very productive tool to utilize. However to manage all of your client communication, history, client orders, quotes etc - no that's a terrible idea.

If you are reading this then call your IT company and work towards a CRM. One of the unique advantages of living in 2022 is that small businesses have access to the same tools Fortune 500 companies do. You can sign up for Salesforce and gain access to what billion-dollar companies utilize instantly.

Are you in the manufacturing space? You also have access to ERP and MRP packages that much larger companies do. All that is required is the dedication to implement this solution in your organization.

Can my technology provider help?

That is not true in all cases sadly. Many IT firms only find value in delivering support, however, your technology partner should be able to guide and assist you. A competent partner should be able to find your pain points and point you in the right direction.

Otherwise, you are missing out on a valuable part of what technology can do you for your business. You should be able to increase profit and find new efficiencies using technology to do this.

Great point. With an increase in cyber attacks and escalating suppl chain disruption, it seems there has been a great deal of innovation in technology designed to protect us from risk and also protect our corp posture on GRC/ESG. But when it mattered most travel and tech conferences shut down. Since the pandemic what have you found the best way to keep yourself and the business function teams updated on new and best technologies. How do we learn about industry trends in changing risks, standards and processes ? Of the tech conferences coming back, which are the must attend events? What else can I do to maintain my knowledge of new products and ideas without it disrupting my day job? Conferences were intense and fun weeks with the risk of information overload but at least it was a great catalyst for team discussion and action. I wonder what others think?

I tagged you in this because I know that you bring significant value in these areas. This should be a huge part of an organizations decision process. Not the price, not the references but value. Who brings the most value to the table. ??

Well said, Scott. This is spot on: “Many IT firms only find value in delivering support, however, your technology partner should be able to guide and assist you. A competent partner should be able to find your pain points and point you in the right direction. “ Is your partner GREAT at helping you keep your business forging ahead proactively or just another firm trying to close tickets? ??
