Your business will absolutely die if it can't do this

So you've got a business. Congratulations!
You even have customers, people you've known for a long time, friends of friends, family, and some quality referrals.
If you've ever had experience with network marketing, you know that the first place to look for business is always your warm market, friends, family, coworkers, colleagues, etc.
But sooner or later, this will run out, it ALWAYS runs out.
If you want to survive, you need to start turning strangers into customers. This is what separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls, and the successful businesses from the "here today, gone tomorrows".
If you're having a hard time converting strangers into paying customers, here are a few tips to help ensure that your business will stand the test of time.
1) Put yourself in a stranger's shoes:
In other words, pretend you are a stranger, looking for what you have to offer, and actually go through the process of looking for a solution.
Some questions you need to ask yourself include:
1) Are you easy to find?
2) Do you look professional?
3) Do you look consistent across all platforms, or do you look different everywhere you show up?
4) And finally, is it obvious to a stranger that you even solve the problem they are looking to solve?
You might know you're awesome, your mom hopefully tells you you're awesome, but a stranger literally couldn't care less about who you are and what you've done unless it is immediately obvious to them.
If it's not, you can kiss them goodbye, but you probably won't get close enough to even try.
So make sure your brand is on point, make sure you show up wherever people are looking for what you do, and make sure your messaging is clear, concise and powerful.
2) Go find strangers and turn them into friends
Yes, even in the age of the internet, you don't have to just sit around and wait for people to find you.
- Go networking
- Find and attend events
- Join a networking group
- Create a networking group
- Attend trade shows
- Connect and engage with people on Social Media
- Host your own events
- Teach a class
- Lead a seminar
The possibilities are really endless, but the fact is, if you can't turn strangers into customers then you can't grow your business.
But hold up, know this: If you are walking around with a "for sale" sign on your head, seeing only dollar signs on the heads of everyone else, you're in for a lot of wasted time and frustration.
While networking can offer quick returns, for sure, it is also, and most often, a long term game.
Markets are not that big and you will start seeing the same people over and over again. Make friends, always look for opportunities to help others first, and focus on building relationships first.
And finally:
3) Advertise
In my opinion, this is the last thing most businesses should focus on, but once you're ready it is a vital step in the growth and longevity of your business.
This is really the coldest and hardest of the three steps, unless you are selling a product, in which case networking might not give you enough of a return for your time.
But for everyone else, the more you solve #1 and #2, the easier advertising will be because you will look much, much better in the eyes of the people seeing your ads.
And remember, advertising is a science, it's measurable, and usually doesn't work very well the first time you try it.
If you have the money to invest in experimenting, go for it, otherwise, use networking and plain old sales to start gaining momentum, build your portfolio, and improve the overall image of your business.
When you start advertising, know that it's a long series of experiments, make sure you are able to track your campaigns at every touch point, and test, improve, test, improve, test, improve.
Conclusion:
If you can master all three of these steps, assuming you actually have a quality product that people actually need, then you have bought your ticket to long term success, and your dreams are well within reach.
