Happy Friday!

I've been reflecting a lot over the last week about leadership.

Last week we curated an event in Manchester for our Brave Minds event series. Overall it was a smashing success, but it didn't happen without it's challenges both during and post event.

I won't go into the details here, but the challenges were a big test to say the least.

In my reflections I've been thinking a lot about the best leaders in history that I've studied throughout my career (business leaders, civic leaders and others who've inspired me).

Based on what we see today in the headlines, on tv and often social media, I believe the world needs better leaders. Now I won't claim a title of best leader ("those without sin throw the first stone" and all that) but my hope is to inspire better leadership in the world.

Imagine a company with team members who felt seen, heard, empowered, inspired and taken care of. Each of these requires leadership. Now imagine a society where everyone felt seen, heard, empowered, inspired and taken care of. Do you think the world would be less divisive? Would people be happier?

Leadership requires us to serve with dignity

Especially when we we disagree.

Last week in Manchester with

Often today we see tv dramatize leadership in press conferences or talking heads discussing a “leaders” social media response to a difficult situation.

But when these moments occur good leaders react calmly and lead with respect.

And what matters most is the work behind the scenes that few become aware of.

Leadership doesn’t always mean being the first to speak.

Often the best solutions come after review, after listening, after internal debate, after reflection.

I’m grateful for the partnership between Brave Minds & Big Growth Group, and the leadership demonstrated by Kristina Radeva & Romans Ivanovs last week.

Consensus is underrated

Sometimes being brave means listening to hear, not to reply.

Listening to learn.

Listening to reflect.

Listening to understand.

Listening to consider another view.

Sometimes being brave means compromising, to find win-win scenarios - where no one loses, and everyone gains.

That's the kind of business I want to engage in. That's a society I'd like to live in.

May we all be brave enough to listen, as much as we share.

Very thoughtful and engaging dialogue that helps open hearts and minds. In such a world you describe at the start, I would humbly suggest the supporters of such a world would be the silent majority not the ones who shout loudest and call those that try to speak names. Unfortunately I see the light at the end of the tunnel for this vision but it is not in this decade but it is COMING!
