Your Brain Might Be Bankrupting You - Here's How To Break Free

What if I told you your bank account is simply reflecting back what you really believe about money?

Not what you say you believe. Not what you wish you believed. But the deep, subconscious concepts about money that have been running your financial reality for years—maybe even decades.

Think about it…

?? Do you feel a constant feast-or-famine cycle, no matter how much you earn?

?? Do you hit the same income ceiling, unable to break through to the next level?

?? Do unexpected expenses always seem to appear when you're about to get ahead?

These aren’t random financial flukes. They’re patterns—rooted in your subconscious beliefs about money.

And here's the brutal truth...

Until you rewrite those subconscious stories, you’ll keep repeating the same financial struggles, no matter how much money you make.

Is Your Brain is Sabotaging Your Earning Potential?

Here’s the deal: Your brain has been programmed to think about money a certain way since childhood.

And those beliefs? They don’t just sit there quietly. They shape every single financial decision you make.

Let me share with you a few examples...

The "Rice and Beans" Survival Mode

I was working with a client, Sarah, who ran a thriving business. From the outside, she looked successful—six-figure income, great clients, a growing brand.

But behind the scenes?

She was hoarding money like she was one step away from homelessness.

She’d make great money, but instead of investing in her business or enjoying her success, she’d stash every dollar away and live off rice and beans—even when she didn’t have to.

When I asked why, she laughed nervously and said, “I don’t know… I guess I just never feel safe.”

Turns out, she grew up in a household where money was unpredictable. One month, they had enough. The next, they were barely scraping by. Her parents constantly told her, “You never know when money will disappear.”

And even though she now had money, her subconscious brain was still operating in survival mode—telling her that spending anything was dangerous.

We had to rewrite her money story so she could start trusting money, rather than fearing its disappearance.

"Always Look for a Discount" Mentality Blocks Your Ability to Receive Wealth

Then there was Lisa, an executive coach who struggled to raise her rates.

She’d tell me, “I can’t charge that much—who’s going to pay it?”

I asked her: “When you go shopping, do you always look for a sale?”

She immediately said, “Of course! My mom never bought anything full price. She’d drive to three different grocery stores just to save a few dollars. She always told me, ‘Never pay retail—it’s not worth it.’”

And there it was.

Lisa had absorbed her mother's belief that paying full price wasn’t smart.

So, guess what? Her clients were mirroring that exact energy back to her—constantly asking for discounts, wanting extra bonuses, or saying they couldn’t afford her services.

Lisa's subconscious belief about money had trained her to attract price-sensitive clients.

Once she shifted that programming? She tripled her prices—and her ideal clients paid without hesitation.

"You’re Not Smart Enough to Make That Kind of Money"

One of the most heartbreaking money blocks I see is the fear of visibility.

Rachel was an incredibly talented consultant. She had years of experience, an impressive resume, and a gift for helping companies scale.

But every time she tried to put herself out there—speaking on stages, posting online, or pitching high-end clients—she’d freeze.

She’d say, “Who am I to be charging premium prices? What if people don’t take me seriously?”

After digging deeper, we uncovered the root:

As a child, her father constantly said things like, “You’re not as smart as your brother. He’s the one who’s going to make it big.”

Even though she knew she was capable, her subconscious still carried that little girl’s fear: “I’m not good enough.”

And because of that belief? She kept sabotaging her own success—playing small, undercharging, and staying invisible.

Once we rewired that belief? She landed her highest-paying client within a week.

Your Brain Controls Your Financial Reality

These money blocks don’t show up in obvious ways. They disguise themselves as:

? Hesitating to charge what you’re worth

? Feeling guilty when you do make money

? Downplaying your success to avoid judgment

? Blowing through money as fast as it comes in

? Struggling to hold onto money, no matter how much you earn

And they are all hidden - buried deeply in your subconscious mind.

That’s why I created my guide, 4 Ways Your Brain is Bankrupting Your Bank Account, to help you uncover the hidden beliefs keeping you stuck in the same financial cycles. You can grab it here.

Our brain is so programmed to think certain ways without being aware. We have to unlearn and be aware of our subconscious mind to truly find our freedom within.

It’s incredible how much our subconscious beliefs about money shape our financial reality. I’ve seen this play out in coaching—people holding themselves back, not because of lack of skill, but because of old stories they didn’t even realize were running in the background. Shifting those beliefs isn’t just about making more money; it’s about allowing yourself to step fully into your purpose.

A century ago we were told "Think and Grow Rich." It's stunning how many of us have STILL not learned the lesson! Maybe "your thinking might be bankrupting you!" will get some attention! GREAT points! Thank you!

Great article. It is so true that beliefs drive behaviors and it's important to begin with awareness. Then you know what you might want to change, because changing behavior is tough - impossible? - if you don't address the underlying beliefs.
