At Your Best
Use your best effort.

At Your Best

I was listening to a Radiolab episode today about two teams of Olympic badminton players who were in a race to the bottom - both of them were trying to lose. And something that stuck with me was a statement that is a consequence:

You can be disqualified for failing to use your best effort.?

And if that ain’t directly relatable to entrepreneurship, I don’t know what is ????

Innovation in a firm requires focus and planning. But more than anything, it requires that everyone try.?

Something I’ve been telling the team lately is that our jobs are to be indispensable to the people we support.?

That means:

? More than checking boxes

?? Finding new ways to do old work

?? Taking responsibility, not just tasks

To do that we have to think differently and then actually execute. Everything submitted must be your best work. Not half-done or hitting the target.

It has to be the optimal version of completion.

Keep this in mind when you’re thinking about continuous improvement within your firm. A big part of building a small firm with big impact is being innovative. Make sure everybody is on the same page about how to define that within your company culture. ??

EP 128: Innovating for Sustainable Growth

?? In My Ears

This past weekend I had the pleasure of seeing The Wiz on Broadway, and OMG so good that I'm going back later this month! I was especially enamored by the vocal talent of the cast, which took me down a YouTube rabbit hole of just watching them sing. Check out one of my favorites, a filming of "I'm a Lion" from the cast recording.

??? Tool of the Week

We run our intranet on Slab , which has been a game changer in holding internal documentation. We use it for our:

  • Employee handbook
  • Client roadmaps
  • SOPs
  • Team FAQs

It's been a great addition to keeping our small team in line because everything is in one place, and we're able to do all of this on the FREE version (y'all know we like free ??) Plus there is a Slack integration where you can search the knowledge base from the app.

CHECK IT OUT HERE!
