Your Best Year Ever?

Your Best Year Ever?

What will it take to make this your best year ever?

Happy New Year! It's that time of year again for us to come together reflect and chart a course so that what we want to happen, actually happens. Have you taken time to REALLY think about this coming year and what you want to attract? What if there were a simple system of accountability that you could easily implement into your life that could help you reach 75% or more of the goals you say you want? What if that system only required five hours to create? Join me for a strategy session that will set you up to implement that system today, Tuesday, January 2, 2019 at either 1 or 8 pm EST. I'll describe the system in-depth here. Here's the link: https://zoom.us/j/820906663. I'll describe this system in depth below.

Most of the year, I am empowering and coaching an array of incredible people to deliver their best speech ever as the founder International Public Speaking Institute. Some may wonder why I get so passionate about goals, especially at the beginning of the year. Truthfully the mission of the International Public Speaking Institute goes far beyond delivering a speech -- it is about empowering people to correctly design messages that matter. New Year's Resolutions MATTER! Most people just do them wrong. Why not try something new this year and incorporate a strategy that can change your life. If you want to actually reach the goals you have this year, you can! How? Identify your goals for 2019 and create a system of accountability so that you reach your goals and actualize your reality this year.  How many times have you had a great idea that never happened? Why? Too often the reason is as simple as failure to plan. I wholeheartedly embrace Elbert Hubbard's words,

"Many people fail in life (or on a goal), not for lack of ability or brains or even courage, but simply because they have never organized their energies around a goal."

What if in just five hours, you could revolutionize your New Year's Goals? In the following paragraphs, I will outline five activities that you can complete in just five hours that can turn your goals into realit. Perhaps Mark Twain said it best,

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, then starting on the first one.”

Hour 1: Write a Statement of Intent

Express where you are with 2018 and what you want for 2019.

  • Reflect upon 2018. Express your impressions for the year, your progress and your goals, in one sentence.
  • Reflect up 2019: Express the vision you have for the coming year. Be specific. Really visualize the reality you want to experience. Don't get wordy...be brief.

Hour 2: Create Your Mantra

When is the last time that you have created a manta for yourself? Key words that you use as personal inspiration? Jasmyn Wright, created The Push Through Mantra for elementary school students that has gone viral -- inspiring children and adults alike throughout the world. "What if it's too hard? I'm gonna push through!" Another person I greatly admire sailed around the world for a year, at one point having not seen land or another boat for over thirty days in the midst of a huge storm with in the middle of the Indian Ocean

I love to identify uplifting quotes motivate me in challenging moments. There are many fabulous quotes out there, select one and use it as a mantra or several that will motivate you. Physically print the quote(s) out and place the quotes in prime locations like your mirror, refrigerator, desk, file cabinet or car.

An idea by Chris Brogan suggests that we should choose three key words to represent our key goals. The words should have personal meaning to you. He suggests that if you want to lose 30 pounds, the word "green" reminds you to fill your plate with vegetables. My three words for 2018 will be Green, Move and Smile. Post these words throughout your environment.

Use your calendar and alarm on your cell phone to remind you of your inspiration quotes and/or words. I recommend implementing these on a weekly or monthly basis. Don't overuse reminders to the point you tune them out. Implemented correctly, these fantastic quotes and words of intent will appear at key moments to help remind you of what you want.

Hour 3: Create Categories

On what parts of your life do you want to focus? There is no right or wrong answer. This is your life and these are your goals. Below are listed the main categories and sub categories I have used in the past to help focus my energies in different areas of my life.

1         Career:

?       Job

?       Vision (my company)

?       Networking

?       Personal Development

2. Financial:

?  Short Term

?  Long Term

3. Physical:

?  Exercise

?  Eating

?  Weight

?  Upkeep

4. Personal:

?  Friends

?  Romance

?  Travel

?  Mind

?  House

?  Philanthropic

?  Goals

Hour 4: Develop Goals for each Category

Awesome! You are ready to create specific goals for each category. Be thorough. What exactly do you want to occur in each category? Write SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.  You should be able to cross them off your list as you accomplish them. Here’s an example.

Physical

  • Exercise
  1. Hot Yoga: Minimum of 2 classes per week try for 3.
  2. Tennis: Use Tennis Ball Machine On Weekends
  3. Walk: Minimum of 12 miles a week.
  4. Bike: 15 miles a week -- take a 12 mile bike ride a month.
  • Calories:
  1. Daily Goal 540 calories 5 times per week
  2. Each month reach my Apple watch goals 22 times.
  3. Receive the perfect month on Apple watch award at least once!

Hour 5: Create a System of Accountability

Step 1: Determine the Goal Type

Review the goals you have and indicate if these are "Y" or "S". "Y" stands for yearly. Meaning you are going to strive to accomplish this goal throughout the year, it isn't accomplished at a specific time. "S" stand for Specific. Next to those that you have an “S” indicate the month you will accomplish the goal.

Step 2: Set Reminders/Alarms

Use your smart phone or computers to set daily, monthly or weekly reminders. Assess them periodically and have a "WOW" session to make the reminders work.

Step 3: Evaluate your progress

Determine the number of goals you have achieved. You can even find your efficiency percentage by dividing the number of goals you have accomplished by the total number you have. Alternatively, create a table to track your goals each week, even daily if you prefer.

Earl Nightingale reminds us, â€œThe more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.”

Good luck! Remember, at the core of great things lies a plan. We here at the International Public Speaking Institute believe in the power of words! We hope that you remember planning your goals is just one way to reach your full potential with your words.

We have the tools and talent to empower you to be the best communicator you can be. Such a great quote and reminder; "Many people fail in life (or on a goal), not for lack of ability or brains or even courage, but simply because they have never organized their energies around a goal."
