Your Best-Earning NonFiction Book Formula, Part 3

Your Best-Earning NonFiction Book Formula, Part 3

ICYMI, read?Parts 1?(your avatar) and?2?(your formula) so you’re all caught up.

Now…let’s make sure your book is?indistinguishable?from traditional publishing by making it impressive–even magnificent!

I’ve written about this before, you can read it all right here.

Now I’m going to expand on that article by reiterating the main points, then sharing a few extras that can make a huge difference:

When it comes to publishing a quality book, these four cornerstones make a huge quality difference:?

1. an incredible cover that makes people want to look more closely,

2. a professional editorial process including editing and proofreading (by full-time professionals) that will maintain the voice of the author–you–while providing a smooth and pleasurable read for the reader, with?

3. a clean, custom interior design, and?

4. a book description that will get a prospective reader to?buy your book right now and put it at the top of their TBR (to be read) pile

…cannot be underestimated when it comes to their long-term impact and the success of your book.

Sadly, I have seen many people who, for one reason or another, disconnect when it mattered most (by not hiring?the best?editor or graphic designer). No-one will tell you your book cover is awful and looks self-published (except me, and only if you pay me…that’s how I know you really want to know), or that there are holes in your advice, or grammatical mistakes or typos. They will nod, smile, tell you how wonderful you are for publishing a book–and fail to hire you, or share your book with others. It might even do well for a time, but over the long haul, your book will not age well and won’t be the workhorse you want it to—the one it truly can be!

Yes, publishing a book that feels, looks, and reads exceptionally well is?hard. It is easy to get overwhelmed and delegate the process to someone or even a company for whom it does not matter whether your book is successful in the long-term. At the risk of being a broken record, I suggest you invest the time and money it takes to navigate these steps effectively. Get expert advice, execute on it, and don’t settle for less than magnificent. Okay? Okay!

And yes, if you really want to get a professional opinion, you can pay for it so you ensure everything is done in the most effective way possible. (If this is something you’d like, you can get on my calendar here. I promise to be kind and direct and make sure you’re good-to-go.)

You’ll want to also check out Brigitte Cutshall’s?Quality Book Formula, as she has decades of experience on the print side of publishing and makes sure your book is a “WOW!” I’ll see you tomorrow with advice about putting your chapters together.

Honorée Thank you for this installment! Your advice is always so valuable. My book's not officially in the world yet so I can't say if the best-earning part rings true, but the fact that it's written and will be available as soon as the interior formatting is complete is definitely a testament to the advice in your book,You Must Write a Book, which I followed religiously!
