Your Beliefs and Business
We live in a world that is a cornucopia of beliefs, lifestyles, and faiths. Our values and beliefs are what fuels our behaviors and can have a marked impact on a business, so with this in mine, should an Event Planner compromise the beliefs that they hold dear to their heart to make a buck??? Should you choose your vendors based on your personal beliefs?
The broad answer is “no”. The goal of every business is to turn a profit, however, with today’s polarized climate, choosing the right vendor for your events may be a stickier situation now than it ever was. As a rule of thumb, ask yourself, “If I conduct business with this client, how will this reflect on my business?” If the answer to that question is that this transaction will garner negative results, then you may want to think twice about the project.
The bottom line is to take an unbiased approach when choosing vendors. Ask yourself, “Are the vendors beliefs illegal? Are their beliefs backed with violence?” Conduct the appropriate research. Check out their social media pages to see the type of following that they have and what their post consist of. The last thing you want to do is back someone that holds disparaging beliefs that could negatively impact your business.
Our vast differences are what make us unique…it is what makes the world an interesting place to exist. If we cannot learn to accept those that differ from us, then how can we as a society grow in a positive direction? The life of an Event Planner grants you the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Discrimination of any type is not only highly toxic to your wellbeing, but can be just as bad for business.
As an Event Planner, have you had to jeopardize your beliefs to execute an event? If so, how did you handle the situation? What are the lines in the sand for you when it comes to working with a client that holds beliefs counter to yours? Spill the tea!
As always, WE would like to wish you the best in all that you do! This is Allyson Wynn signing off and may all your events be a “Wynning Experience”!
