Your age is decided by your thoughts

The healthier your lifestyle, including diet, exercise and using your mind will help to keep you vital and active for a long time. Many long-time meditators are well into their 90s and 100s and have completely clear minds. The first step in a healthy mind is a calm and relaxed body. Moderate exercise while keeping calm is essential, along with a healthy (and if possible) organic diet that is low in chemicals. The next step is to use your mind in various ways each day, some in relaxation (such as visualizing yourself with a clear mind, or doing things that bring you joy and happiness), and some in practicing skills, whether that is math, or games or reading and writing.

Science’s understanding of the mind is rapidly changing, and many of the newest discoveries are consistent with what the yogis have known and practiced for millennia. The mind is much more capable that we give it credit for, and we are capable of so much more than we think. Recent studies of the mind now know that the mind is not the brain, it is a quantum field, and it is both a sender and a receiver. Which means that you get back what you put out. If you put out worry, you will get back more reasons to be worried. If you put out health and happiness that is what you will get back.

As you mature and keep your mind active, you can expect to become less emotional, and perhaps wiser. You won’t become more intelligent, but if you read a lot and learn a lot, like I do, you’ll know a lot. But since you are old, young people don’t think you know anything. And despite the fact that you probably know two and three times as much as they do, you’ll become less talkative, and more silent. You will refuse to debate any issue. And if angered, which rarely happens, you will hold your temper.

You will become more of a good listener. And, if you are like me, you’ll happier than you have ever been. The unnoticed things will delight you, like just watching a spider crawl along a wall, or a bird flitting outside about tree limbs, and a cat slinking along in a crouch toward some imagined prey. You’ll look up at the sky and marvel at the clouds slowly billowing along, making shapes that seem personified, and others that appear like cotton balls spreading away. You will enjoy the sun as it draws down on you and warms your wrinkled skin.

Your joys will be many. And there will probably be regrets, but you won’t let them capture your mind because you know you can’t do anything about them. And finally, you will have few fears. You know you don’t have much longer to live, and you welcome whatever God has to offer. I can create my own reality at any age. I tell myself I am you thing and then keep writing, painting, volunteering, and have clients for counseling and give readings . I just keep doing the right next indicated project in front of me, which keeps me in reality. I do not feel old, I have a life to live and more books to write.

As you age, you gain life experiences. When I was a young adult, I thought I knew most of the answers. I didn’t even know 90% of the questions! I learned a lot throughout my life. As I told my son, every decade has changed the way I perceive life. For me, my critical thinking skills are honed. I used to trust everyone but now I am cautious; I’ve seen too many people get dealt bad deals. I used to see things as black or white but now realize life is a glorious rainbow. I can believe one thing and another person can believe differently- we are both right from our own perspectives. The most important thing I learned too late is our bodies are like a car. If you buy a brand new car, maintain it, take care of it’s body and give it the fuel it needs, it will last for a very long time.

If you buy a new car, don’t do maintenance, drive it in salt without washing it and don’t replace the oil, it will break down and fall apart. You life is hard to respond because you don’t tell us at what age had you noticed the change. It is hard to respond because you don’t tell us at what age had you noticed the change. Saint Paul said in one of his Epistles: “When I was a child, I spoke as a child; now that I’m old, I spoke like an old man.” Change ‘spoke’ with ‘though’ and you’ll know what will happen —hopefully— with your thoughts. We do neither know if you see ‘your change of thoughts’ as a good or a bad thing nor if this change is —objectivily— good or bad —by example, losing memory—.

But usually we change our way of thinking thru life. Monet —the painter— used to say: “I do not mind how many years I life, I just want to die young” —youth is a state of the mind, not a thing of years—.Saint Paul said in one of his Epistles: “When I was a child, I spoke as a child; now that I’m old, I spoke like an old man.” Change ‘spoke’ with ‘though’ and you’ll know what will happen —hopefully— with your thoughts.

If you want to be an active healthy senior, take care of it! Cheers!
