Your Ability To Influence Using Answer Intelligence

This week on the Leadership After Hours podcast, I talked with Dr. Brian Glibkowski, the creator of Answer Intelligence. “Answer intelligence is the ability to provide elevated answers to important questions. Each of us has important conversations, and your ability to influence others is predicated on your ability to provide high-quality answers.” - Dr. Brian. This was such an insightful conversation. As an Executive Coach, Consultant, and Podcaster, I have focused on the ability to ask better questions, but few times do we focus on giving better answers. If you are a leader of any kind, this can become a super skill!

Here are a few of my takeaways and highlights from our 2 part discussion:

1. Each question type has specific best answer types: If you asked me, “Why should I implement your Leadership Development Program in my company,” and I answered with a procedural answer, that wouldn’t make any sense. “Why” questions are best answered with theory and story. Theory is strategy, it’s cause and effect. So, I could respond that a strong leadership culture has been proven to be the stronger predictor of long-term business success for companies of all types over the past 100 years. I could then follow that up with a story illustrating a real-life example of where this proved true.
2. There are 6 answer types: A great exercise to show that you truly understand a concept, a brand, or a principle would be to communicate it in all six answer types. Imagine having your leadership team communicate your company’s value proposition using theory, story, metaphor, action, procedure, and concept. Seems like a powerful exercise to truly flush out your UVP.?
3. Understanding the relationship between questions and answers will make you a better communicator: So much of our communication with each other in an organization is in the form of back-and-forth questions and answers. By increasing your Answer Intelligence, you will be a better communicator on both sides of the equation. Communication is a critical skill for leaders at all levels and a contributing factor to almost every business failure.?
