Your 2025 Goals ??

Your 2025 Goals ??

The new year is finally here!

We bet you’ve started thinking about what you want to achieve in the next 365 days. But goals aren’t just for grown-ups!

What does your kiddo want to achieve in the next year?

?

The Year Ahead

Here’s a great exercise that will help your neurodivergent child practice thinking towards the future and reflecting on past actions, which are both important cognitive skills.?

To help your process, we’ve created a guide for discussing the year ahead with your child. These open-ended questions can be customized to your child’s experiences and their journey, but here’s where you can start:

Your Achievements

Let’s begin with what went well! Ask your child what they’re proud of achieving in the last year, regardless of how big or small. It’s also a great opportunity to tell your child what made you proud of them in the last year, and remind them what great work they’ve done:?

?? What accomplishments are you most proud of??

?? How did you feel when you achieved a new goal?

?? What big lessons did you learn this year?

?? Who helped you grow this year?

Your Challenges

Of course, it’s not as fun to talk about things that are difficult. But it’s an important emotional exercise to discuss how challenging situations affected them. Your goal here shouldn’t be to dwell on the difficult activities, but how they made them feel and ways they handled them emotionally:

?? What did you learn from doing difficult activities?

?? How did doing complex tasks make you feel?

?? What helped when you felt frustrated??

?? Who was the most helpful as you tackled challenging activities?

Your Goals for 2025

Here’s where you can dive into the fun stuff! Talk to your child about what they’d like to accomplish in 2025. If helpful, you can give them a few examples, like riding a bike or reading a book out loud by themselves.?

?? What skills would you like to grow in 2025?

?? What accomplishments would make you proud?

?? What’s an activity or skill you’d like to master? How would it help you grow?

?? Who can support you and your goals next year?

Start Small?

Once you set your goals, it’s time to break them down into achievable steps. Goals can feel overwhelming if you don’t have a path forward to follow:

?? Pick your favorite goal for 2025.?

?? Decide what steps you and your kiddo will need to take in order to get there. Where do you need to start?

?? Establish one you can practice in the next month to get you closer to your goal.?

?? If needed, you can even break it down into weekly steps to keep you on track.?

Taking the time to discuss your goals can help your child visualize the endless possibilities of what they can achieve, and motivate you and your child to work hard in the year ahead!
