Your 2024 Guide to Authentication: Data MSPs Need to See + 5 Questions To Ask Your Vendors

Welcome to the first edition of The Tech Trends Tracker. As stated in my graphic above, this newsletter will focus on research-driven insights for MSPs and Tech Vendors with real data from the Channel Program platform.

Think of my other newsletter as the trendy pop culture version with weekly updates on what's hot and not from the week, and this newsletter as the Ken Burns version, looking at more significant sets of data over a much more extended period.

It will evolve, but for now, we will focus on data from our 2024 Channel Technology Map & Report, which you can download HERE.

First, out of the gate, we will look at Authentication.

Channel Program’s Perspective

As the traditional perimeter continues to dissolve IT Service Providers will prioritize advanced authentication, password management, and access control through emerging technologies like Zero Trust, passwordless authentication, and Privileged Access Management (PAM). AI-driven behavioral biometrics and anomaly detection will enhance security, while compliance pressures will drive the adoption of stronger identity management practices, including cloud-based and decentralized solutions. Automation, such as self-healing authentication and self-service tools, will reduce human errors and streamline operations. At the same time, integrations with XDR platforms and SOCs will provide a more comprehensive security approach. Scalability and a seamless user experience will also be vital to managing diverse client environments effectively.

I'd like to give a shout-out to the sponsor of the Authentication section, CyberQP , you check out more about them HERE

QUESTIONS TO ASK

Here are some key questions MSPs should consider when evaluating an authentication vendor:

  1. How does your authentication solution integrate with the existing tools in my tech stack, especially RMM and PSA systems?
  2. What mechanisms are in place to support multi-factor authentication (MFA) and adaptive authentication?
  3. What level of visibility and reporting does your solution provide for monitoring and compliance purposes?
  4. How does your solution handle user access control and identity lifecycle management?
  5. What kind of support, training, and documentation do you provide, especially in the case of security incidents?
