Youngest World Champion Gukesh Inspires a New Era for Chess
Today marks a historic moment for chess enthusiasts and for India as Gukesh becomes the youngest-ever World Chess Champion. A feat that symbolizes not only his brilliance but also the growth of chess as a sport, attracting brighter and sharper minds with each passing year. This victory is a testament to the endless possibilities when talent meets opportunity, and it fills me with hope and pride to see such achievements emerge from our country.
Chess has always held a special place in my life. I started playing at the age of 4 and was recognized as a prodigy by 8. However, the pressure of academics and societal norms led me to step away from the game for a while. At 14, I found my way back, stronger and more passionate than ever. Over the next 4 years, I poured my heart into chess, winning multiple CBSE championships and building a winning culture for the team I led. These moments taught me the value of discipline, resilience, and teamwork.
In college, my love for chess inspired me to start a chess club, where I competed and won against some of the best teams from India, USA, Singapore, Spain, Australia, and the UAE. I paused my personal chess journey with the achievement of earning the Arena International Master title—an accomplishment I hold close to my heart.

Today, my focus lies elsewhere, but I know this pause is not permanent. Maybe in 5 years, I’ll pick up where I left off. For now, I find joy in seeing how far chess has come in India, with more support and opportunities than ever before for players to excel and reach incredible heights—like becoming a world champion.
