Young Strata Network - Speed Networking round-up
I am feeling really inspired after a great SCA Young Strata Network event last night.
A huge amount of work went into the night from the committee and the SCA; you never quite know how these things will go (given it was the first time such an event has been run at SCA NSW), however, the result was outstanding.
There was a massive buzz throughout the event which has continued into today - mentors/mentees alike who put the effort in really took something away from it. So many people get stuck working in the business they're in that they rarely get time to reflect and have open discussions about where they've come from, where they're going and why they're successful in the first place. This event facilitated so many of those discussions and I personally learned a great deal from young and old alike.
We were fortunate to get the time of 22 of the brightest sparks in the industry in NSW, with a special mention to Maria Linders who emerged from retirement to share some of her experience as an industry pioneer.
The industry is blessed with people that have a huge amount of knowledge and wisdom to share and from what I saw last night there's a number of young up and coming people that will take an opportunity to draw on this knowledge in an effort to further themselves and their career.
Strata is a fantastic industry which is on the verge of professionalism and gaining greater respect in the wider community as more people live and own in strata and begin to sort the good apples from the bad - the cream rises to the top (and that's enough analogies). Events like last night will serve to further this as young people seek to develop themselves in an effort to better serve their clients.
The success of the night was typified with the arrival of Jack Stoker from Hunter Strata, who came to and from Maitland on the train to be there and by all accounts, took a great deal from the night. I hope to see more of Jack and his regional peers at future events.
The SCA National conference theme was 'better together' and I can see that clearly now. The more we engage with each other and share our successes, woes, solutions, and aspirations, the more we'll thrive.
Thank you Janette Comish, Alison Spink, Jane Hardingham, Pat Rush, Penny Harrisson and Chris Duggan - wouldn't have happened without you (well it might of, it just wouldn't have been as good). Credit also to Scott Chambers who initially suggested this some months ago.
Thank you to the sponsors - Bannermans, Express Glass, BAC and Strata Loans.
