Young Science Beyond Borders (YSBB) Online Conference 2024

The 2024 online conference of the Young Science Beyond Borders (YSBB), organised by the @Polish Young Academy, was an exceptional event. I participated in a panel discussion alongside @ Dr Rohan Soman?and @Prof Paulo?Ries, with @Prof Andrzej Katunin serving as the moderator. We addressed a significant topic entitled "Mobility of Researchers in Poland – A Panel Discussion with Foreign Scientists at Various Career Stages Conducting Research in Poland.

We emphasised our individual motivations for selecting Poland as our research country. Affordability, funding opportunities, and collaboration with domestic and international scholars are among the enumerated advantages. Challenges like language and cultural shock were addressed. Numerous educational institutions in Poland offer possibilities to study the Polish language and culture, facilitating a seamless experience for researchers during their stay in the country. Various funding sources, such as @National Science Centre Poland, @National Agency for Academic Exchange Poland, @Foundation for Polish Science, and @National Centre for Research and Development Poland were highlighted. Each source creates funding opportunities for researchers at different stages of their careers. Furthermore, we expressed our perspective on brain gain in Poland. The panellists agreed that the brain gain in Poland remains ongoing. At present, 8% of students in higher education institutions are international. Some students seamlessly integrate into the industry and academia following completion of their studies.
