Young People/Adult at the Forefront of Radical Change

Last year, I led a seminar during a Leadership conference in Birmingham on empowering the next generation of young people/adults. During my preparations for my talk, I was reminded that they have been at the forefront of radical change for generations and this year is no different. They are not waiting for spaces to be created like my generation but are creating spaces!

As an advocate for young people /mentor, this is evident time and time again. Many are accomplishing amazing things including @malala, @gretathunberg, @omarimcqueen, @jeremiahemmanuel. Globalisation, accessible travel, technology and social media have amplified their voices and made it easier for them to speak out against the injustices they see around them.

As a group passionate about justice, they consistently show up by their actions and money. Even during the #BLacklivesmatter and the death of #georgefloyd, I know many who are holding their former schools to account and asking them to decolonise their curriculum. They are using their voices, pens, attending protests and educating themselves and families. This generation fills me with hope because many are admitting their unconscious bias and are willing to learn from others.

May we learn from them to be courageous, innovative and be prepared to do things differently! This is why I advocate for young people! They absolutely rock!
