You’ll never be an Olympian (and that’s OK)
Dear Pepe,
Yes, you’ll dream of it, big time and for some time.
And no, you’ll never make it,
mostly lacking the needed superb talent for it.
The good part is that you’ll realise soon enough though (*)
Yet that dreaming,
and the discipline and effort that go with it,
will still take you far in sports,
in personal and in professional life.
Yet that early realisation will help you
funneling your energy and your learning in other directions,
to achieve other goals in life.
Yet that celebration of Olympian ATHLETES,
will take you to follow and ADMIRE (some of) them,
mimic (some of) their BEHAVIOURS,
cherish and pursue (some of) their VALUES,
and try to learn and apply (some of) their LESSONS in life
to achieve the unachievable (**)
No, you’ll never be an Olympian.
And SO WHAT?
Yours, Pepe
(*) This low-res B&W pic from the XX century portraits you at the Regional Youth Basketball Team (yay!), never made it to the National Team though… /pic featuring Luis Franco among others/
(**) The “some of” is because I believe that not everything and everyone in Olympics go in business and in life, as Mark Ritson brilliantly explains here: https://www.dhirubhai.net/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7226153491843399681/
