Stop Working Just to Work—That's Slavery

Stop Working Just to Work—That's Slavery

Money may not always make people happy, but production and results will. If you have a co-worker with no enthusiasm for their job, I expect they aren’t a top producer, right? A person’s thoughts and actions will result in their production. So many make excuses like, “I don’t need extraordinary levels of success” or “success is not everything” or “I just want to be happy” or whatever else they say to themselves, but understand that for anyone to rise above average, they must think and act in a wildly different way than they previously have been.

If you find your production levels stagnant—and your pay—put into action these 6 tips:

Don’t Act Like it’s a Grind—In order for your work not to feel like “work”—or like you’re running along on a hamster wheel—you must think in terms of the right amount of volume. Work is a grind when your mindset and actions are way too small. You need a bigger payoff. Chances are you are capable of much more than you’re doing right now. After you match your mindset with the right purpose, you will start taking more action and find yourself propelled into new places you never thought possible before.

Go All In—You have to be willing to expend a lot of energy. A lot of people won’t expend energy without 100% assurance of immediate or short-term payoff. An attitude like this only guarantees the ruin of your economy. I often see others setting conditions on what they are willing to do and hear people say things like, “There is no way I am going to work any harder than I have been” or “There is no way I will work for that little bit of money.” You must abandon this kind of outlook if you want to stop living paycheck to paycheck. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how much effort it takes or how insignificant the payoff seems to be.

Stop Your Entitlement—Too many workers feel they deserve money without earning it. Remember that you are owed nothing, deserve nothing, and are entitled to nothing. Entitled workers will never work hard enough to earn any real money because they feel things should be given to them. Nobody who accepts government handouts is rich.

Slaves get just enough to survive—but personally, I’m not interested in surviving, I want to thrive.

People act as though work is something to get through, yet in reality, they spend very little of their time even doing it. Most people only work enough so that it feels like work, whereas successful people work at a pace that gets such satisfying results that work is a reward. Truly successful people don’t even call it work; for them, it’s a passion. Why? Because they do enough to win.

Don’t Dread Mondays—People who complain about Mondays at work are proud to basically say, “I’m not productive, I’m looking forward to doing nothing until Friday night when I can go and drink, and then do nothing all day Saturday.” If you are one of these people you won’t ever become more valuable by saying bad things about Monday. What does looking forward to the weekend do for your co-workers today? Make the most of today! If you hate on Monday then you have no clue why you go to work and have no goals.

If you were going to become a billionaire next Monday or change the world somehow on Monday, would you still say “I Hate Mondays”? If you were going on vacation would you hate Monday? Stop wasting your boss’ money clocking in Monday mornings like a spoiled child having to go to a school they hate.

End Middle-Class Goals—Workers who do just enough to get by and are satisfied making $50,000 a year probably own a home they are handcuffed to and live paycheck to paycheck with 2 weeks of vacation a year and $20,000 stuck in a 401K for the next 30 years. They’ve got food in the fridge, electricity, and feel grateful that they have more money than people living in Venezuela. People who have the middle-class settle mentality will never rise above the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.

Look At the Vehicle—Don’t begin to do this until you get tips #1-4 right, but once you have those handled, keep in mind that the rich get with the right company where there is an opportunity for growth. My VP of sales Jarrod Glandt started working for me 7 years ago for $2500 a month and while he wasn’t making anything at the beginning he was at least in the right vehicle. He grew his skillset and has been able to multiply his monthly income many times over because he was with a company looking to expand. All companies live from revenue, so find a place with commissions rather than just a salary and you will be in control of how much you earn.

You likely are able to increase your pay at the company you are at if you really commit to it.

The bottom line is that doing anything in life that society considers “normal” will only get you average at best. It’s normal to work from 9 to 5 at most jobs—and it’s normal to make $52K a year. This is why anyone who works just 9 to 5 will never be rich. They are taking average actions for their money. The rich take massive actions. Instead of 2 sales calls the average worker makes, the greats will make 20.

Even though there is plenty of money floating around on this planet, most people don’t have much of it—and it’s because most people won’t take more actions to get more money. The rich work for their freedom.

Attack Monday's, and Tuesday's, and every day. Majority of the salespeople out there would benefit from these ideals. Where's the passion and work ethic?

The essence of the article is very beneficial, but equating work (for the primary purpose of working) to slavery will never pass - regardless of who is/was enslaved. Forced labor with basic subsistence and no option cannot be compared to at-will employment for financial compensation as an equivalence.

'Nobody who accepts government handouts is rich' - Agreed. They get rich by having others accept the government handouts so that they can pay them a non living wage. They create new employer materials that tell employees to go apply for SNAP to supplement the non living wage.
