You and Your Physical Health

You and Your Physical Health

You need to pay attention to your physical health

Physical health is another core part of self-care. The body and the mind have a unique connection, and it's difficult to be in high spirits when you are not feeling good about your body.

Research has shown that regular exercise increases the level of serotonin in our body. What does that stuff do? I also asked myself that question and discovered that a rise in your serotonin level significantly improves your mood and energy.

When exercising for self-care, you should choose an activity you love. It could be a regular run, brisk walking, swimming, or just about any other thing that makes you feel alive. You derive extra fulfilment from doing what you love, and it is the love that encourages persistence… even when it seems you do not have time for it….you will MAKE time!!!

Do you need to be completely fit to start…Not at all…that’s why gently does it.

Talk about Sir Thomas Moore, who, during lockdown, inspired an entire nation when he walked 100 x round his garden and raised £33million for the NHS…..using a walking frame.

Exercise won’t kill you…”But I don’t want to be the first one!”  That should not be your reply as yet another excuse.

I’m talking about moderate exercise…. NOT spending every spare minute you have in the gym, NOT running on a treadmill for 2 hrs a day, no, just starting with 3 times a week exercising for 20-30 minutes is an amazing start and… drinking plenty of water. (How much water do you drink daily…not in your tea or coffee?...It must be Part of your diet…Hydrating your body has many benefits)

No, you do not need a gym membership, Yes, you can work out at home; Walking up and down the stairs (as long as you do not live in a bungalow), sit-ups, press-ups, jumping on the spot, skipping, using various items as weights…so many things can be done in the comfort of your home…so no excuses …Parking a few blocks further away from where you need to be….simple stuff…

Start an exercise program, then ensure consistency by entering that in your Self-Care or Personal Growth plan.

What’s one of them?  You might well ask.

I will explain that fully in one of the later sessions but, for now, understand that Self-Care will never happen by chance, it will only happen by choice….by being intentional about looking after YOU, then following though with action.

To diarize all your positive steps will make a huge difference. We’ve all heard about goal setting and, just thinking about them is simply wishing they might happen….maybe by osmosis?....A goal not written down is merely a wish…and wishing is not a great strategy for anything, including self-care.

Writing down what you will do, and when you will do it throughout your week, then implementing those steps, will ensure you have a fighting chance to succeed.

Just think how much better you will feel when you are fitter and healthier because you are exercising and looking after yourself?

Don’t exercise for a week or two, then look in the mirror and expect Adonis to look back at you…and when he doesn’t, Quit….It’s not a quick fix as anything worth doing is often an uphill journey, but the long-term benefits can not be underestimated.

Start your physical exercise program…TODAY!
