Are you a writer or do you just want to write?
This isn't what I'd thought the writing life would be like

Are you a writer or do you just want to write?

‘That’s it’, I told my husband. ‘I’m quitting’.

Sitting in the sunshine, sipping lattes and penning my thoughts. That’s how I'd imagined a writing life.

Instead, here I was surrounded by discarded toys and a mountain of washing. I was ready to throw the whole damn 50,000 words out the window and my laptop with it. Just because I’d failed to save the last hour’s work and my husband (a computer programmer btw), hadn’t managed to make it magically reappear.

In fact, I lost count of the number of times I told my husband I was ready to quit in those dark days of writing up my PhD. Usually he’d just nod and wait for it to pass, but sometimes he’d rise to the bait.

‘You’ve spent four years doing this now, why are you going to throw it all away?’

For me, starting a new project is the easy part. I’m all fired up with ideas and raring to go. But it’s getting up and starting each day in the middle of the project that can be like wading through mud.

There are two major differences between writers and those who just want to write.

The first is just getting started.

But the second is more important. And that’s getting started the next day. And the next day.

If you need some help with #1 or #2, my winter writing circle is now open and starts on Monday 14th Nov. I'd love to see you there and hear about your writing dreams for 2023.

Our theme is 'write YOUR way'. There'll be coaching/teaching input from me as well as the regular cowriting sessions/ community building.

Sessions are Mondays (workshops) and Thursdays (cowriting) 13:30- 15:00 GMT.

I started this writing circle because it's the community I wish I'd had when I was starting my writing journey as a postgraduate student. Writing can be great when it's going well, but often it's lonely and it's hard to get through the mud.

Join today to meet like-minded writers, have some fun and finally get that work done. I love social writing -- will you join us?

No writing experience necessary!

All the details and the link to register are in the comments.

Whether your work in progress is a blog post, an article, or a book, you'll find all the help and support you'll need to become a more confident and prolific writer and achieve your writing dreams in 2023
