Are you worth being seen in today's world?

“I fear I can become unseeable”- the words of an indie art film based on the life of a small-time social media influencer.

Though her words escaped her lips, they hide in the heart of us all, wanting to be seen in a world where you so easily can become unseeable…

The importance of “identity” is something you hear referenced regularly in our personal and professional lives yet is STILL under-appreciated in society.

Identity being, not just who you are but everything that truly belongs to you- your purpose, desires, relationships, abilities and ministry/work

The lack of knowledge and desire of our own true identity is seen all throughout the replicating and chasing of what is seemingly the more desirable “identities” of others.

“It’s a hit I can’t stop taking”- the film states, referencing our desperation to find any acceptable "identity" within a community even if it costs exchanging your own true identity.

The irony being, you become "unseeable" the moment you trade away your true identity, (that which makes you unique) for what makes you the same as others (common).

But it’s easy to give up what you don’t understand or see the value of, so how can we begin to learn what it means to find our own true identity that makes us "seeable" in this world.

Well here are 3 great places to start!

Hearing the voice of God

The idea of God speaking to humans tends to be passed off as biblical mythology that no longer is relevant to today’s modern western world, however whether a believer or not, its clear to see the practice of spirituality has in recent decades made a resurgence especially among self-development enthusiasts, thought leaders and gurus.

The idea of a higher power even if not completely understood is slowly being embraced again. For those who still have a strong belief in a higher power, what has God spoken over your life directly to establish your true purpose and identity.

Surprisingly when I ask this question to people, they tend to start off confused and unsure but with sincere self-reflection over their life journey, they undoubtedly begin pulling out previous prophetic moments, dreams, visions or supernatural coincidences that remind them of their own godly encounters of who they truly are.

Your Heart

In past interviews, both Jeff Bezos and Oprah, two dynamic juggernauts in their fields, have stated that the most important decisions they’ve made in their lives came from them following their gut and intuition.

When you see two powerhouses making statements such as these, it’s strong evidence to stop and listen.

The age old battle between heart and mind will never end but what should end is the under-appreciation intuition plays in guiding you towards where and who you're meant to be.

Some decisions aren’t meant to be made with logic but require trusting what your inner self is telling you, many times that's felt through those unexplainable desires and compulsions you secretly hold so dear but fear to tell anyone about.

Your Abilities

It’s hard for me to believe Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t born to play basketball and go on to be a NBA hall of fame legend when he's 7ft1, weighed between 300 - 370 pounds throughout his career and broke backboards for a living.

But this believe of being meant to do something isn’t exclusive to NBA players, we all have talents, personality traits and attributes that makes us the perfect fit for accomplishing certain feats in life.

Alex Honnold, a world class, free soloist rock climber, has hands so large they look like something out of a sci-fi movie production. He's also the only person in the world to have accomplished one of the most difficult physical tasks in human history- free solo-climbing "El Capitan"- climbing solo with no rock-climbing equipment where failure would mean death.

Coming to grips of how you’re shaped and wired, your strengths and even your weaknesses help to point you in the right direction for who you’re truly meant to be.

In Conclusion

The key to finding these answers comes from a deep self-reflection of who you truly are outside of external voices and by watching your life journey as if a high-quality story being told, full of hints, teasers and surprises along the way.

When you do so, you’ll begin to see the recurring themes and patterns that makes your life a rich and powerful masterpiece that can’t be “unseeable”!
