Are you a workplace Artist or Among the mass?
While we are not certain about our future, we do realize the importance of artificial intelligence and automation which are displacing the workforce, drafting new roles, increasing efficiency for some employees and having no impact on many whatsoever.
Amid all this chaos, there is a lot of buzz in the town about the uncertainty (read: loss) of many jobs, However I believe instead of being paranoid about this "uncertain" situation, people should start making them more industry relevant and in no time the paranoia about "uncertain' future shall go away.
Confused? Let me explain
History has time and again highlighted the biggest qualities of Human Beings. We "adapt", we "evolve" and we "conquer". I am not inferring technology as our enemy (rather it is our best friend) that we need to conquer it, but I am trying to explain the need to adapt and evolve our jobs and professional capabilities as we head in the future.
Let me explain it differently, Would you want to watch a movie (maybe Fast & Furious 15) with a robot as the lead actor instead of Vin Diesel? I am sure the answer is "No". Do you know why? Technology will never have the power to replace an "Artist". And this is the key to our future. For years we have done jobs just to earn living, but the present time calls for every professional to become an "Artist" (Workplace Artist) and I bet no technology will have the power to replace lest touch you.
To sum up, rather than imagining our future more like a real-life SciFi flick (read terminator) or having robots serve us cocktails while we relax, we should start learning new things (read data science, new languages etc.), we should become more socially active and finally we should become an "Artist" in everything we do.
I will be soon drafting a follow-up post on How and What should be done to become a "Workplace Artist".
