Bruce Lipton is an American Developmental Cell Biologist noted for his views on epigenetics. ?In his book ‘The Biology of Belief’, he claims that beliefs control human biology rather than DNA and inheritance.?He says:

“Our thoughts are mainly controlled by our subconscious, which is largely formed before the age of 6, and you cannot change the subconscious mind by just thinking about it. ?That's why the power of positive thinking will not work for most people. ?The subconscious mind is like a tape player. ?Until you change the tape, it will not change.”

As an ambitious, driven Business Owner, Corporate Leader and High Achiever with too much on your plate, you know that it is a constant challenge managing your time efficiently, so that you can work smarter rather than harder and be as effective and productive as you can possibly be.?With only 24 hours in a day, ever increasing workloads, problems with staff, endless deadlines, pressures and goals (not to mention those curve balls that always seem to come at us at the very worst time), the pressure is always on to find ways to work smarter in order to maximise our performance, wellbeing and success but more importantly remain healthy and sane!?

Creating and maintaining a healthy balance in both your personal and professional life is the key to your success.?Which is precisely why doing a High Performance Programme should be part of every High Achievers ongoing commitment to themselves, as it is a sound investment in your mind, body and business.?

Why You Need to Forget Logic

In theory, and to the logical conscious mind, implementing ways to work smarter should be easy but in practise it is much harder because the mind literally has ‘a mind of its own’.?The subconscious mind (or brain as some like to refer to it) runs according to programmes that it has taken on board in our lives from the day we were born.?Some of these programmes are good for us and some are bad but the subconscious mind doesn’t distinguish between the two or make value judgements. ?It simply receives and processes data and doesn’t have an emotional connection to it.??

It is basically robotic and merely reacts to a stimulus or sequence of stimuli with a response that has been employed before under similar circumstances like a sort of ‘Pattern Recognition Matrix’.?Furthermore because you are not dead i.e. the action you took back then led to survival (irrespective of how long ago that was), the mind/brain will simply revert to that same course of action time and time again regardless of what you consciously want to do instead.?This is precisely why so often we feel powerless to change something about ourselves even when it is for the better, which is very frustrating.

This applies to literally anything that you want to achieve whether it is a small goal such as wanting to be more disciplined spending time on social media, checking your emails, conducting sales calls etc. ?Or a large goal such as overcoming a fear of speaking in public, becoming a better communicator, overcoming Imposter Syndrome etc.

The Lowdown on the Mind

The problem is, the harder you try, the more the subconscious mind resists and creates symptoms to stop you in your tracks.?For example, it cranks up your anxiety and stress levels so you can’t think straight and focus, let alone perform at you best.?It might even create a panic attack.?Which is why you procrastinate, come up with 101 excuses not to do these things and don’t end up taking any action.?I bet you’ve experienced times when you needed to step out of your comfort zone but found yourself thinking of other things you also really don’t like doing to do instead, just to avoid taking the important action.?That’s when you know you’re in trouble!?Until you get to the roots of these issues you will fail and only get temporary progress at best.?

Why??Because your conscious mind, in other words your conscious will/willpower is only in control of 1% of everything that you think, feel and do.?That isn’t much, is it!?The other 99% is governed by your subconscious mind and the programmes running within it which are all stored in your belief system.

The Control Room

So your subconscious mind really is the 'Control Room' of everything.?It dictates every thought, feeling and action that you take before you are even consciously aware of it.?Which means the subconscious mind controls your performance, wellbeing and success.?

To explain further, imagine your subconscious mind as a round hole and your conscious mind as a square peg, the two just don't fit together. ?This is the reason for the conflict and resistance.?

When the two parts of your mind are at odds with the goal you are trying to achieve, it will always feel like a struggle.?But it doesn't haven't to!

The Good News

The good news is a lot of this data is programmable, so you can modify your mind’s processing instructions with the help of an Expert of the Mind i.e. A High Performance Mindset Coach.??
