Are you working with me #JUST to prove you're Diverse??

With all the highlights on change and how the world is #looking for that change, I ask myself will you treat me differently now JUST to prove you don't have a racist/bias prospective??
As a Black British of Caribbean heritage now living in America, I have had to evaluate myself and ask myself hard questions. Looking at my history lessons at school we were never taught about Black History at the most I remember selecting to do a subject essay on Apartheid BUT that was my choice.
I like many have been proud of who I have identified myself with as a Black Women in Britain but knowing my children are part American I have had to do my own research on Living in America whilst black. To say my eyes have been open is an understatement but to say that a whole country can be lead by #MakeAmerciaGreat again begs me to wonder when was America ever great and as a British native in America, can someone genuinely educate me on this??
Throughout my career I can say that my persistence for greater and bigger opportunities have always lead me to be blessed and opened up opportunities given to me by all races (whether Caucasian, Black/Brown or Asian) but to know that I can be "controlled" by a system that has a level or a threshold that keeps me in a certain place really makes me even more determined and ambitious to succeed. My character and work ethnics speak volumes and knowing that I have had the opportunity to partner with some amazingly successful people because of my abilities and NOT because I'm a "token black" makes me proud.
Within the industries I have worked in and encountered I have seen that "Token Black employee" or worker within an all white establishment. Having a Black/Brown employee under your diversity & inclusion department doesn't count either. We must be open to all based on the abilities, experience and right that all should be judge by the same criteria.
We need to strive to change our mindsets from the inside out and work to identify were we fall short, make ourselves accountable and move forward to better this world. I'm encourage to be in such a season as this and know that we can only get better.

4 年It's a huge topic... Even with a black wife, step-daughter and mixed-raced son, I must admit to feeling lost at times. However, open & non-judgemental conversations with people of a broad perspective and open mind is the only way I have found to set my markers.
