Activism Against Gender-based Violence
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE WEEK AND WORLD QUALITY MONTH 2017
When the Winnipeg Foundation shuttered the Community News Commons Program it silenced some 2,000 articles written by grassroots citizens.
The following attempts to capture the essence of the article, re-establish the links if possible, and add additional comments in support of Canada's and the United Nation's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence.
ASQ Manitoba/Canada’s theme for Canada’s World Quality Month 2017 contribution: Bridging Gaps – Relationships of Truth – Common Good.
A brief outlie of the Content;
Among RJAM’s values is to embrace and integrate Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility and Truth as core foundations. ‘We are all Treaty people’ represents an opportunity to leverage the ‘grassroots’ of our society as ordinary people and engage our hearts, minds and spirits towards human rights, good governance and social justice . . . the essence of our lives and quality of living. The opportunity creates a world first from a ‘grassroots’ approach by engaging and raising the voices of the many stakeholders who are usually identified as the ‘silent majority’ from local to international ‘voices of quality’ by encouraging involvement and engagement.
A different way or an ancient pathway? Restorative Justice is a different way of justice that brings the victim, offender and community together to resolve the harms of crime and understand its impact on our lives.
"The act and council are important steps forward in much-needed justice reform," said Kate Kehler. "Restorative justice is proven to provide resolution for victims of crime, accountability to those who commit crimes and context of the crime so the community can address the root causes."
Kate?Kehler, the executive director of the Social Planning Council and chair of the?Restorative Justice Association for Manitoba, said its success in the '90s received?national attention for reducing recidivism?rates and offering alternatives to jail time. "It was a ground-breaking program and it was started very grassroots and was so successful it was taken over by the Department of Justice within years of its inception."

The following listings are corrective actions w.r.t. comments and links to add or replace materials that appeared to have disappeared that were part of the context and content. (Most likely my error.) Some links cannot be found. I recognize many communities are struggling with the similar issues am hope this material provides some insight.
Manitoba launched its Restorative Justice Act, which the province calls a Canadian first in order to rehabilitate offenders through reconciliation with victims and the community at large. I was present that day as a member of the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg and a a founding member of the Restorative Association of Manitoba. I met many people at the event and spoke with David Chartrand, President of the Manitoba Métis Federation.
