Are you where you need to be?

“Grow where you are planted.”?

I read this quote years back in “Raising the Bar” the compelling life and business story of Clif Bar ’s founder Gary Erickson.?

And it stuck with me.?

While it’s often credited to Mother Teresa, its origin traces back to Roman times and the Stoic philosopher Seneca.?

The central idea of #stoicism is that human beings should focus on what is within their control and, with calmness, accept what is beyond their control.?

In a time where I was jumping from one idea to another, trying to find my true 'calling' to create the biggest impact I could have in a world catching fire, it was like a lightbulb switching on.?

Grow where you are planted.

Instead of trying to become something else, focus on what is already there.?

Hone existing strengths and abilities.?

Use those skills that have already seen their 10,000 hours of practice.

Trust ideas and values that come from deep within.

Root in your tribe.?

This realisation helped me to get to where I am today.?

The thread in my professional life has always been storytelling.?

Be it developing campaigns, brand or comms strategies, producing concepts or events, creating content, engaging communities: stories have always been at the core of what I do.

All I changed was to give these stories a purpose.?

Campaigning for a fairer and more sustainable food system.?

Accelerating climate action in the global cycling community and industry with Shift Cycling Culture (yes, rooting in my tribe).?

Sharing other people’s stories that need to be heard through writing, film and photography.?

Find your sweet spot and build on it.

Focus on what is within your control (don't worry too much about the rest).?

And give it all you've got to create a positive impact.

We need everyone’s best to avert worse.
