For You When You Truly Need It #1 – Don't Forget To Love Your Craft

There's something for you below this intro piece. If you're not interested in me, scroll down until you see the line.

I was reading a post on Reddit yesterday about LinkedIn.

See the banner? That's the one.

Me, posting daily since Mid-January, had to open this bad boy up, and see what it's all about.

And I was surprised at how much I agreed with them.

They're not wrong. Again.

For those who took the time to get to know me, you'll know I started LinkedIn to finally get a social foothold somewhere.

So far, so good.

It's been great for experimenting, meeting new pals, and getting the odd bit of work here and there.

But I never truly stopped to smell the roses.

Am I depressed? Am I... anxious?

...

Nahhhh.

But hey.

I'll let you in on a little secret.

I haven't been doing too well on LinkedIn recently. I mean, if that even is a secret.

And the only thing that's changed recently is that old newsletter I used to put out.

And less time. That's also a factor.

So, I guess the newsletter will have to come back.

And I'll have to optimize my efforts somehow.

I also want to just write for 30–60 minutes about whatever's on my mind. Recent wins, new tools, revelations, all of that good stuff.

But anyway, enough about me. Let's talk about you.

Don't forget to love your craft.

I love writing. Never stopped. It's a joyous thing to put words together that inform or educate.

And in some cases, persuade and sell.

When I write on LinkedIn, the joy just drains from my face sometimes.

Pandering to what's popular. Using techniques. It's a bit… not me.

And when you write, I'm sure it's a bit not you either.

So, I went back and checked my more popular posts, and I encourage you to do the same as well.

And I noticed something.

I didn't pander to anything popular, any techniques.

I was 100% me, and wrote how I love to write.

I'm not going to discredit what's popular, like templates or techniques. Do what you've gotta do to get that bread, boo boo.

But if you're not doing so well, perhaps you're not being authentic to yourself.

And that's a lesson I think we all need to learn as time goes by.

For the next 10 posts, drop your monicker. Your “professional” self.

Just post what you want, but frame it in a “what do I know that they can use to improve their day?”.

Unlock your LinkedIn. Be your true self, just for a little bit.

And let me know how it goes.
