You: Are what you read and what you watch.
Most people have heard of the saying “You are what you read.”
One of the most frequent habits of successful people is exactly this pastime.
With the accelerated lives we all now live. I believe this saying needs to be update since one thing that us humans subsequently like to do more of is to connect in real-time, in the real flesh. Which is also an important observation and where ‘You are whom your friends are’ too.
Looking at this a little deeper in essence whom you are is the average of your 5 best friends. So choose and keep your friends carefully. Now more than ever it is important to invest time into your most valuable friendships since unlike family, you can always chose your friends.
You are the average of the company you keep.
Lastly and less obviously, I also believe ‘You are what you watch’. I came across this observation while attending a recent un-conference hosted by a digital agency that I respect very much.
The night was a real ‘Mental Jam Session’ and some of the discussion topics were ‘Using Bacon as a metaphor for Business and Strategy’; ‘The First textbook a creative Burnt was Maths’ & ‘Can a Brands business objectives be achieved over growing Agency Profits?’.
Connecting with like-minded business and marketing professionals afterwards over a drink, our conversation moved towards how your past has a strong direction on your future.
I observed how I shared with them what my favourite TED.com talks were. These two talks resonate so strongly with me that I have shared them hundreds of times to numerous friends, colleagues, clients, partners and staff.
The first one is a talk given by Sir Ken Roberson back in 2006 entitled ‘Do Schools kill creativity?’ and the second is one by neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor in 2008 entitled ‘My stroke of insight.’ I encourage you to watch these, as they both have powerful lessons to share.
In our lives where access to inspiring stories are now just a click away.
Your favourite two TED.com talks tells a lot about you, to yourself and to your peers.
What is your passion, purpose and whom do you really respect?
After all you are now What you read, Whom you friend and What you watch.
In the comments below, please share your favourite TED.com talks. Sharing is Caring ;) @WillJNGreen
