You Are and What You Have is Enough
Self-doubt is one of those areas that everyone struggles with. It does not matter your economic situations, whether you are rich or poor. If you were born on the wrong side of the tracks or on the right side of the tracks. It does not matter if you are black or white. Self-doubt is part of this thing called life. Athletes, celebrities, head of companies, owners, people that you would suspect have had success and all the confidence in the world still struggle with self-doubt.
But rightfully so, we live in a world where it is hard to be confident with so much around us. And to top it off, the world says you have to drive this or have a certain position to be someone in life. Some self-doubt could be a result of our family history. Something someone said or did could be the results of the trauma that are in our lives. Things could have happened as a child that have caused you to have low self-esteem, uncertainty, or doubt as an adult. Self-doubt can come from rejection, abandonment, or something that has affected our current emotional and mental state. Self-doubt can be anyone, anything, or situation that causes us to feel a sense of lack of control and vulnerable. But everyone from a baby to a seasoned adult we go through periods of self-doubt.
So, what do you do when you experience the conflicting dilemma between faith and doubt?
I have some suggestions below: In the book of Samuel right before David was anointed to be King by the prophet Samuel, he was rejected by his father because he was not even considered out of all his brothers a prospect to be King just, because he was the youngest and a sheep herder (1 Samuel 16:11). He was then rejected by his brother when he went to the enemy lines to inquire what the giant Goliath was saying to the Israel army. His brother asked him “Don’t you have sheep to tend to as a way to belittle him?” (1 Samuel 17:28)
Saul made attempts to give David armor that he was not use to in order to fight Goliath. But David decided to use what he already had. It says in 1 Samuel 17:40: “Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag, and with his sling in his hand, approached the philistine.” Wow! David showed us a few things, regarding self-doubt. One is that despite our trauma, history or naysayers that we are more than enough. We are qualified to be great, we are significant, and our history does not discredit how God can use us!
Then secondly, David showed us, what we already possess is enough! The gifts God has placed in us is already what we need to fulfill God’s destiny in our life. Like most of us, David was labeled but yet still became King. Then he used what was already in his possession to defeat impossible odds by slaying Goliath. So, when you go through periods of self-doubt, know that your trauma and the haters are just stepping stones to the next level. When you think you don’t have what it takes, the truth of the matter is it’s already in you. You already have it! So, you are and what you have is enough! All you have to do is silence the background noise…look at yourself… and believe!!!
