You are what you eat... and READ!

You are what you eat... and READ!

I love reading. It's my way of relaxing. It's my Fran-only-time. It's one of the ways how I learn and get smarter.

Be warned though, just from reading you want progress much. It's about the implementation*.

Here are my 2019** top picks for you!

My top books to read in 2019

I tried my best putting my favorite reads of this year into categories organized by rows.

?? Row 1: How your soft skills & behavior influence your environment

??Row 2: Disrupting the way of how we think/work/ act in organizations

?? Row 3: Philosophical take on the interplay of emotions, thoughts & well-being

?? Row 4: Making sense of the world

Here is my how-to read & implement books books/ podcasts/ events strategy

1. Get close to the creator! ??

I enjoy getting to know the authors, meet them for an interview to understand what their intentions were while writing or follow one of their workshops. I like being close to the creator, pick their brain and immerse into their world (I guess this is what you call a book worm level 2.0 *haha*).

By the way, those interviews and meet-ups are excellent content for you to share on social media to increase your exposure. As an example check out my video interview with the award winning social intrapreneur Gib Bulloch at Business School Said in Oxford.

2. Use Post-it's to make it stick! ??

If I ever lent you a book, you will most probably notice my ugly doctor's handwriting in there. I mark sections that trigger me, use post-its to highlight pages and write a little summary on the last page to connect all the dots and make cross-references.

Moreover every December, when I fill out my year compass I chose which topics I'd like to focus in the coming year. To give you an example, this year I wanted to

  • improve my public speaking skills which is why I joined Andy Harrington's Jetset Speaker Academy in London.
  • learn more about how I can change my own mindset, influence others through the power of (non)verbal communication which is why I did my NLP Master in Portugal and read the books by Cialdini, Nasher, Little & Grant.
  • explore how my body, mind and soul are connected which is why I got more serious about up my yoga practice and joined Max Strom's workshop about the powerful instrument within us called breath after reading his two books.

3. Sharing is caring! ??

I get real joy from recommending books to others. No matter if I am sitting with friends around the dinner table, if I have a conversation with my mum or I host a workshop. Linking conversations to books is much fun. It's the same as introducing people who don't know each other yet. Matchmaking books and people, it's such a win-win.

??Now I am curious for your input: What are your top reads of 2019? Comment below and inspire me with your top choice!??

Share your knowledge with others - wisdom is a gift

Happy reading everyone and I wish you all the best!

Thanks so much for this list! I'm always looking for inspiration on what to read - esp. since there is so much JUNK out there. Love getting a sort of filter from a person who inspires and mentors me! Franziska Schaadt ??

I love this list! Unfortunately, I've only read "Sapiens". If you're looking for a great fictional companion to that book, check out Ramez Naam's "Nexus" series.

"Pre-suasion" by Robert Cialdini. Took me years to finally read this book. It's a look into the science of influencing others, especially before they come to a decision to make (or even know that there is a decision to make). Wish that I had read it when bought it!?
