If you were the health minister…
As the population ages, Australia needs to look beyond the tradition model of ‘health’. When you look at the numbers there is no denying our health care system in every state and at a federal level is not a health care system but a sick care system. Where the majority of the health budget is spent on people who are already sick such as medication, treatment and hospital visits. Year after year we continue to ignore the obvious – keeping people healthy is far cheaper than treating sickness and disease.
So let’s start the conversation - if you were the head of the health department what would you do to encourage and support Australian’s to achieve better health?

8 年I would subsidise gym memberships to encourage people to get active. In saying that, being "healthy" is the 80/20 rule... 80% what you put into your mouth and 20% exercise.... so more investing into clearer labelling of foods and stricter rules for misrepresentation of unhealthy foods.

8 年Poor diet is one of the biggest contributing factors so I'd double the GST on junk food and use the revenue to subsidise the cost of fresh fruit and veg.
