OK fans, here is what you have been waiting for (or not). My top 10 songs of all time. I have a surprise with co-#1 songs. I would really like to hear your top song, especially if it is not on my playlist. Use the comments to let all of know your top song. Hope you enjoyed this list. I know I did just listening to this music one more time.
10) Ruby Tuesday (The Rolling Stones) – 1966 I have never been a big Stones fan, but it is really hard not to put one of their many songs on any list. So, my contribution is this song but instead of Mick Jagger I am going to a version sung by the Corrs (an Irish family band) along with Ron Wood on the guitar. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=mandolin+Wind+Rod+Stewart&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3dmandolin%2bWind%2bRod%2bStewart%26form%3dANSPH1%26refig%3d4010c29bcc904c88ae57206d4ded3f49%26pc%3dU531&view=detail&mid=6C54476C2E1BE52D74066C54476C2E1BE52D7406&rvsmid=E3398EB7CA96EE1FFE79E3398EB7CA96EE1FFE79&FORM=VDRVRV
9) Daniel (Elton John) - It appeared on the 1973 album Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player. It was written by John and his lyricist Bernie Taupin. In the United Kingdom, the song reached No. 4 in the official chart. In the United States, the song reached No. 2 on the pop charts. Like the Beatles, it is a tough chore picking out a couple of Elton John songs for my list. He has such a long and celebrated career with so many great songs. I think I first heard his music when I say the movie Friends many, many years ago (1971) and I am still listening. We saw Sir Elton at the Broadmoor Arena in Colorado Springs a few years ago. Couldn’t believe an artist of his stature would visit my hometown but we got tickets and really enjoyed it and he was almost 70 years old. I wish I had that much energy. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=elton+john+daniel&docid=607993715192834970&mid=FC82DF124E8640538F0FFC82DF124E8640538F0F&view=detail&FORM=VRAASM&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Ddaniel%2520elton%2520john%2520youtube%26qs%3DMM%26form%3DQBVDMH%26sp%3D2%26pq%3Ddanile%2520elton%2520john%26sk%3DMM1%26sc%3D8-17%26cvid%3D7C126281EE0F4CEEA9BB6EC13DE575F2

5) Landslide (Fleetwood Mac) – 1975 I guess it is no secret that my favorite rock artist of all times is Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. We got the chance to see Fleetwood Mac in concert in Houston years back and even when ‘getting older’ they were still amazing. Landslide was written by Stevie Nicks. "Landslide" is considered one of the best songs of the last 50 years, but the song was inspired by a particularly difficult time in Fleetwood Mac member Stevie Nicks' life. The legendary singer-songwriter penned the tune while she was struggling to decide if she should go back to school or continue playing music with her then-boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham. During an appearance on Oprah's Master Class, Nicks explained what she was going through at the time. "I was really getting tired of being a waitress and I was really, really getting tired of being so poor. We could not afford to buy anything except just enough food to eat...and gas for our car," Nicks said. "During that year, I considered...if we do this record and we have no luck with it, maybe I'll go back to school for a year and at least I'll be able to breathe -- to not have to work on music all night long and be a waitress all day."
Nicks said the stress took a toll on her relationship with Buckingham. "Fear never helps relationships. When you're scared of where your next money is coming from...it's really nerve-wracking. That's hard on a relationship and it was very hard on our relationship. And there were points during that time where I was like 'this is never going to work...We're going to end up breaking up and everything we've worked for is going to be done. It's all going to be for nothing.' That's really what the song 'Landslide' is about," Nicks said. "Is it worth staying in this relationship to keep this music together? And my opinion always was 'yes it is.' What we have to offer is way better than what I have to offer by myself or what he has to offer by himself. 3) Rhiannon (Fleetwood Mac) – 1975 "Rhiannon" is a song written by Stevie Nicks and originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac. First released on their self-titled album in 1975, it was subsequently issued as a single the following year. "Rhiannon" was voted #488 in The 500 Greatest Hits of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine. Its US chart peak was in June 1976, when it hit #11. It reached #46 in the UK singles chart after re-release in February 1978. The song is always referred to as simply "Rhiannon" on Fleetwood Mac albums. The suffixed title "Rhiannon (Will You Ever Win)" was only used on singles in certain territories. Live performances of the song were sometimes prefaced with Nicks saying, "This is a song about an old Welsh witch. During 1975–1980, Fleetwood Mac's live performances of "Rhiannon" took on a theatrical intensity not present on the FM-radio single. The song built to a climax in which Nicks' vocals were so impassioned that, as drummer and band co-founder Mick Fleetwood said, "her Rhiannon in those days was like an exorcism." This video is 8 minutes long but you wish it would never end. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=fleetwood+mac+rhiannon&ru=%2fvideos%2fsearch%3fq%3dRhianon%2bby%2bfleetwood%2bmac%2b%26FORM%3dHDRSC4&view=detail&mid=9D7757CB73ED614F41B79D7757CB73ED614F41B7&rvsmid=33F2950BF0613D16593833F2950BF0613D165938&FORM=VDRVRV
2) Turn, Turn, Turn (Byrds) – 1965 Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season) ", is a song written by Pete Seeger in the late 1950s and first recorded in 1959. The lyrics – except for the title, which is repeated throughout the song, and the final two lines – consist of the first eight verses of the third chapter of the biblical Book of Ecclesiastes. The Byrds were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1964. The band underwent multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with front man Roger McGuinn remaining the sole consistent member. Although their time as one of the most popular groups in the world only lasted for a short period in the mid-1960s, the Byrds are today considered by critics to be among the most influential rock acts of their era. Their signature blend of clear harmony singing, and McGuinn's jangly twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar was "absorbed into the vocabulary of rock" and has continued to be influential. Initially, the Byrds pioneered the musical genre of folk rock as a popular format in 1965, by melding the influence of the Beatles and other British Invasion bands with contemporary and traditional folk music on their first and second albums, and the hit singles "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn! Turn!". As the 1960s progressed, the band was influential in originating psychedelic rock and raga rock, with their song "Eight Miles High" and the albums Fifth Dimension (1966), Younger Than Yesterday (1967) and The Notorious Byrd Brothers (1968). The band also played a pioneering role in the development of country rock, with the 1968 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo representing their fullest immersion into the genre. The original five-piece lineup of the band consisted of McGuinn (lead guitar, vocals), Gene Clark (tambourine, vocals), David Crosby (rhythm guitar, vocals), Chris Hillman (bass guitar, vocals), and Michael Clarke (drums). https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=the+byrds+turn!+turn!+turn!+(to+everything+there+is+a+season)&&view=detail&mid=D661A8C02468B88B3D23D661A8C02468B88B3D23&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dthe%2Bbyrds%2Bturn!%2Bturn!%2Bturn!%2B(to%2Beverything%2Bthere%2Bis%2Ba%2Bseason)%26FORM%3DHDRSC4

co-#1 - I Hope you will Dance, Lee Ann Womack – 2000 This one may surprise you given the heavy folk rock music playlist you have just been through but living in Houston for so many years and having the country music stations just about all you can find while you are on the highway. You can avoid hearing a lot of country western songs. I first heard this song when we had two teenage girls. Given my introverted life where I more often than not sat on the sidelines and watched others dance, this song really touched me in a special way. I even remember buying this single and giving it to both our daughters. I bet they don’t even remember. But I do.
So, from Herman’s Hermits to Hallelujah and Lee Ann Womack, from Steeleye Span to Fleetwood Mac, from Michael Martin Murphey to the Byrds, from Bob Dylan to the Who, quite a convoluted musical journey but I had a ball putting this playlist together. I hope you have just as much fun doing yours and if you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you will dance.
I love storytelling through song and you’ve got a few of the best here.
