If you want to stop wasting energy, read this book

I'm no expert on home energy systems and energy conservation, but as an engineer who hates the idea of waste and inefficiency (as a matter of principle), I love to find ways to make my home more energy efficient. I also love the idea of saving money on my energy bills.

A friend and colleague of mine in northern California, Curt Sommer, actually is an expert on these topics. He has been a certified energy auditor and he helps people get cost-effective solar systems established for their homes or businesses.

We were talking about everything he knows about home energy savings and conservation methods. He has put this knowledge to use in his own home by upgrading his insulation, improving his water usage, updating his light bulbs, and doing some low-cost but effective modifications to his windows. These changes add up to major savings on energy bills.

He is also passionate and knowledgeable about renewable energy systems like geothermal systems and, of course, solar systems. And he knows how to find qualified energy contractors and reliable companies, having worked with many of them over the years.

I told him, "You should write a book on this subject!"

He loved the idea. Long story short, because I know, trust, and respect him - and because this is a topic that can benefit everyone who has a home and cares about saving energy - I agreed to help him write and publish his book.
