When I began writing my first book, I was told that editing will create the edge. I soon realized that no amount of editing could compensate for a lack of strategic direction in what I actually wanted to achieve by having a book.
It was only when I started writing with a clear understanding of my outcome and audience I was writing for, that my book returned me $5,000 in client work in the very first week of publishing.

So, think of it this way: editing polishes the diamond, but if the diamond isn't cut correctly in the first place, no amount of polishing will make it sparkle. The initial cutting — your strategic focus on the outcome leads to impactful, inspired writing and so shapes the core of your book.

Let me explain… imagine you're delivering a speech to a room full of people. If you spend all your time perfecting your language but fail to understand who your audience is and what they care about, your speech will likely fall flat.
On the other hand, if you know your audience well and speak directly to their interests and concerns, your message will resonate powerfully, even if it's not perfectly polished.

Writing a book works the same way. Your readers want to feel seen and understood.
They want to know that your book addresses their specific needs and desires.
This connection starts with identifying your target audience and understanding their pain points, aspirations, and language.
And in a twofold way, by weaving these elements into your writing, and already at the beginning of your author journey, planning how you’ll reach those readers, you create a book that speaks directly to them.

Let's take an example of a business coach who wants her book to attract new clients. Initially, she writes her manuscript focusing solely on her expertise, ensuring every detail is perfect.
