If You Want Exponential Growth, Invest In Yourself

In my recent chat with Darcy Luoma, one of America’s most highly credentialed coaches, on her Thoughtfully Fit Thursdays video series, we talked about how I invest in my own personal and professional growth while being the CEO of a successful business. Here is a snippet of our conversation:

Sarah: As a coach, I have the expertise to come in, not with a therapist perspective, but with all of the accumulated knowledge of having been a therapist for 23 years and leverage that.? I'm a brain nerd, so I'm interested in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, maximizing how our brain works already, utilizing positive psychology and strengths-based learning. Bringing all of that into the coaching relationship really catapults people forward in a very safe, confidential, sacred space. Does that make sense??

Darcy: It totally does. And I'm curious, if you're willing to go there, where do you find that space for yourself? You're clearly out in front, leading a successful business. Where do you go to get that coaching or that confidential space?

Sarah: I have my own private coach, Evelyne Brink, with whom I've invested significant money. Last year I spent over 6 figures investing in coaching for myself. I have a private one-on-one coach. I’m a member of 4PC with Rich Litvin. I have a spiritual coach. I have a physical coach, which I'm sure doesn't surprise you. I have a husband who I adore and love. We've been together for 28 years, so we've grown up together.

Darcy: Oh my God!

Sarah: And I have my team. I used to be an EOS Implementer?, so I use EOS? in my own business, although I've used “Delegated to Elevate” for myself. Therefore, I'm not doing strategic planning with companies anymore.?

My team of coaches and I use the EOS? model of Identify, Discuss, and Solve (IDS?). During our monthly team meetings we have learning and mentoring time where we collaborate on challenging clients.?

So. I find inspiration in a whole lot of ways.

I think continuous growth and learning is my playground. I would just hop from mountain top to mountain top if I could.

Darcy: Wow, so you walk the talk, you invest deeply in your own personal development and professional growth.?

Sarah: Absolutely, and there's something to be said for that. I suppose you know this too, nobody has a coaching budget. People have budgets for all kinds of things. Even my multimillionaire clients have budgets for vacations, cars, etc., but most of the time they’re not thinking about what they want to invest in themselves.

Coaching isn't something individual people: A. are thinking about, or B. are setting money aside for. When I went through the experience of hiring a coach for the first time, my hand was literally shaking as I was doing a money transfer of a large figure of money to Evelyne for coaching. I remember feeling slightly sick. But, every time, it pays off exponentially.

Darcy:The ROI right there is clear. You're in your zone of genius, have a team, and are realizing the results of investing in yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Sarah: I think that's true, and I'm sure that you see this as well. I find that often there's a turning point when someone invests in a program or in individual coaching. There's a shift that's happened. They’ve made this conscious decision that they’re creating their own life. They move out of the drama triangle, (victim, persecutor, rescuer) into David Emerald's empowerment dynamic. It's the work of taking responsibility.

There's a call to action when someone invests in themselves. Something significant happens. The more time, energy, and money they invest, the more they get out of it.

I'm playing with that in my own life because I want exponential growth.
