Are you waking up thinking too much about work?
Dr Fern White
Principal Dentist @ Beacon Cove Dental, Melbourne Keynote Speaker, Coach and Mentor for Dental Women ????
I found myself waking up the last few days, thinking too much and automatically going to my phone.
All of a sudden I was lost in the whirlwind of social media.
The likes, the comments, the photos of everyone’s perfect life reels.
Then it was onto our team slack channel - commenting on posts and creating new instructions.
I could feel myself become inflamed by stress.
The urgency to react. To close open loops - NOW.
STOP FERN.
Because there’s this thing called the PRIMARY EFFECT.
How you start your day has a disproportionate effect on how your day pans out.
React first thing in the morning and your day will primarily be one of reaction.
So I told myself:
“Get up, and go to your temple space” (which is a separate room in the house I have decorated what is most meaningful to me scattered on non religious altars).
And I did.
I played some music and started to move my body Non linearly.
How it wanted to move to uncover tension, thoughts, contractions, emotions.
(You could also just Dance your body to a good old hit).
Then I sat in Meditation for 15-20min.
Ending with a gratitude bomb - and journaling everything I am grateful and happy for right now, and in the future.
That’s my morning ritual.
To get back control of my morning … and then my day.
After that, I do a workout of some kind to get the oxygen and energy pumping. And get to work.
If you want to stop reacting to you day, then it’s time you carve out time first thing in the morning for your own morning ritual.

To move your body, then come into a mindful practice to calm your mind.
Then get intentional about what you want your day to look like.
Without intention, you will be bombarded by everyone else’s agenda -?
through your inbox, messages, social media.
Everyone will want a piece of you and the more you respond, the more they will flock with their agendas.
So, block out this time for you - even 5 minutes a day will make a huge impact.
And even better yet, block this time out for you and your team at the clinic to get intentional about how you want your day there to evolve.
It brings your team together.
And helps you take back your day.
Hit reply and let me know what your morning ritual looks like!
Love,
Fern
